UPDATE: First Impressions Of X-Men: First Class Hit The Web Before Full Reviews!

UPDATE: First Impressions Of X-Men: First Class Hit The Web Before Full Reviews!

Despite embargoes being placed on full reviews of the movie until Wednesday, a couple of sites gave been allowed to share their thoughts early, and the overall verdict is VERY positive...

Although full reviews of X-Men: First Class aren't expected to hit until the 25th of this month, Fox have allowed a couple of sites to share their thoughts on the movie before Wednesday. Below are a few excerpts from those posted at Bleeding Cool and Hey U Guys. Be sure to follow the links below to read them in their entireties.

The first comes from Bleeding Cool, the full version of which you can read HERE.

First Class contains some of the briskest and most efficient storytelling I’ve seen in any recent blockbuster. An awful lot happens, and awfully quickly at times, but it’s all clear and while some nice moments might be over in the blink of an eye, this can only reward repeat viewers.

There’s a sequence later in the film, from which much of the material for the “character trailers” was gathered, that actually uses split screen to crack the pace up one more notch. This film does not hang around – and at over two hours of running time, that’s a virtue, because when nothing drags, and the audience don’t get bored, the minutes just whistle by.

The second site to give their first impressions of the movie is Hey U Guys. You can read the full version by clicking HERE.

X-Men: First Class takes the series back to its roots, both figuratively, in terms of the character-focused drama, and literally, as we open with an almost shot-for-shot recreation of the beginning of Bryan Singer’s first X-Men film. In doing so, the film makes itself instantly familiar, and also, instantly engaging.

Indeed, it is in the treatment of the characters, and their relationships that the film really triumphs. Wisely Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence don’t even attempt to mimic the performances given by Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Rebecca Romijn in the earlier films in the franchise. Instead, Fassbender’s Erik feels almost Bond-like, both in his intelligence, and in his drive to get the job done, while McAvoy plays Xavier as a charming but conceited version of TV illusionist, Derren Brown. This creates a beautiful interplay between them, and their relationship, both the close friendship, and the underlying tension, is believable and immensely enjoyable to watch.

The other key relationship for the film is that between Singer and Vaughn, and frankly it’s seamless. Vaughn’s ability to direct action, and sense of humour run through the film, while the film still feels very much like a part of the world Singer created in his movies.

UPDATE: And here is the third from BLOGOMATIC3000. You can read the full version by clicking HERE.

After an original, two sequels and an offshoot, you’d be forgiven for assuming that you know what to expect when walking into a theatre to see the latest in the X-Men franchise. You’d be wrong. X-Men: First Class does not forget what came before, in fact there are nods to it throughout, both fun and terribly sad, but fresh faces have breathed new life into familiar characters and their battle for acceptance has an added touch of humanity. For the first time, and I realise I may be more immune to superheroes than most, I warmed to the X-Men. James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Raven/Mystique) and director Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, Stardust) deserve much credit for bringing X-Men up to date, refreshed, while, ironically, taking it back in time.

There are some characters who get short shrift and aren’t allowed the space, There is all the excitement, pace and spectacle that you would expect and want from an X-Men film, but what makes X-Men: First Class a film that I can’t wait to see again is the people in it.

X-Men: First Class is set to be released in the UK on June 1st and in the US on June 2nd.

I was actually more excited before all the hype hit. I'm still wanting to see this flick, but a lot has been said already and it's lost a lot of mystery to me or not!
WolvieCBM - 5/21/2011, 11:27 AM
YES! Thank you Matthew Vaughn! Can't wait!
Hawksblueyes - 5/21/2011, 11:30 AM
Could this be the summer we get four kick ass comic book movies? It's looking more and more like it.
Illuminatus - 5/21/2011, 11:31 AM
I suspect its a plant. Remember that "review" of First Class that mysteriously "leaked online" a month and a half ago or so? The "reviews" above sound alot like that.
RedeyeJedi - 5/21/2011, 11:34 AM
I'm not surprised, those of us who think rationally alway's knew the movie had great potential. All you have to do is get over your preconceived notion's of what a comic book movie(that you didn't write, direct, or produce)should be.

FckyouFlipflops - 5/21/2011, 11:52 AM
@Oreos ..... hahaha i swear, everyone was going on and on about how FOX cant make movies........people ........ its the writers and directors and actors that make a movie..... its not always the studio..... matthew vaughn is brilliant, stardust was awesome, kick ass was amazing ...they got a good writing team(most of the guys who wrote THOR) ......... and they got two great guys playing the leads and they have blue and yellow outfits !! how could you ever have had any doubt ?? this movie is gonna be brilliant
hopefully one of the best ever CBMs
Spideyshawn - 5/21/2011, 11:53 AM
This was already a day 1 watch for me.Michael fassbender is gonna due great.I was a little skeptical about james mcavoy but im glad he did a good job as chuck. Now aaron johnson as cyclops in a sequel that takes place in the 80s plz.
Moron - 5/21/2011, 11:55 AM
@Intruder I didn't mean you,and I understand your dislikes with the film but as a stand alone film the haters were wrong!!
Ryguy88 - 5/21/2011, 11:55 AM
Sounds like they are just trying to make a good movie, like all the level-headed people on this site expected they were trying to do. It's still early though so we will see how this all turns out. It may not be the adaption everyone wants, but I'd take a good movie that takes liberties than a bad one that doesn't any day.
ManOfKrypton - 5/21/2011, 11:56 AM
Eat your words Haters.....This is going to rock....In Matthew Vaughn i trusted!
jazzman - 5/21/2011, 11:59 AM
some of u guys are jokers, the article prove the mutants they used in the movie was no point having them i.e. Darwin and some others. whats the point to introduce these characters and call it X-Men First Class and dont use them properly.

the movie was going to be alright cause it done by Matthew Vaughn and we know us Brits are the best :P

actually FOX Studio cant make good CBM movies cause they have a proven history of not allow the Directors and Writters make a good movie.
Hellsing - 5/21/2011, 12:00 PM
Nice to know that I was right that Fassbender would get rave reviews, and nice to know that Xavier didn't get shafted like I expected. Looks like banshee's getting some praise too.
MovieGuy2178 - 5/21/2011, 12:00 PM
[frick] you haters! This movie is gonna rock!!!
Moron - 5/21/2011, 12:02 PM
1.All these reactions so far have been from UK sites.
2.From ScreenGeek.co.uk "I saw the film Friday morning, and while the rest of UK press is embargoed until 25th May, I can officially reveal that Matthew Vaughn's prequel is tremendous."That proves my first point!!
3.I think the reason your saying there "fake" is because you can't accept that you were wrong!!
Good Job Vaughn and Singer
Ryguy88 - 5/21/2011, 12:03 PM
There should be a troll icon for people who hated this movie before filming was even finished. They should be outed so we all don't have to take their other opinions seriously :)

Jazzman, where is your proof of that? Every major studio puts out crap movies half the time. And as for the random characters, would you rather them cram some major characters into minor, unimportant roles? The characters should always fit into the plot, if you try to force it you get crap like Origins: Wolverine, Spiderman 3 and Iron Man 2.
CROD - 5/21/2011, 12:06 PM
Ill wait till people who werent handpicked by FOX review the movie to give a crap.

I do hope its awsome though.
jazzman - 5/21/2011, 12:06 PM

thats just point and sad everyone has a opinion.

@jazzman well it sounds like they just did
thesymbiote - 5/21/2011, 12:08 PM
yupp. knew it. The cast and the director are just too awesome for this movie not to be good.

haters can hate while I enjoy watching this :P
SpiderArse92 - 5/21/2011, 12:09 PM
KNEW this was gonna be good as soon as Matthew Vaughn was announced. Can't believe the ignorance and stupidity of some people on here who just roared "RAAAR IT's GOING TO SUCK, ha-ha FIST ASS, GETTIT, GETTIT?!?! Herp derp derp..."

Can't wait :D
jazzman - 5/21/2011, 12:11 PM

by the help of Matthew Vaughn

FOX has alway been well know to f**k up comic book movies and video game movies. if u dont know that then where have u been all this time. Thomas Rothman and Co. has ruined CBM and VGM thats a fact.

FckyouFlipflops - 5/21/2011, 12:15 PM
@jazzman haha yeah dude thats wat i said :P

Does anyone remember when this movie was first being developed and casted and I went on record say that I couldn't wait to be able to yell I told you say? Well now is that time and as I said before I TOLD YOU SO.
aflynn - 5/21/2011, 12:21 PM
cant wait to see this movie, gonna be sucha good flick what a wonderful summer to be a comic book fan.
EarOne - 5/21/2011, 12:22 PM
while i don't want this movie to succeed, i gotta agree that the cast and the director hired have made it difficult to NOT succeed. McAvoy, Fassbender, Lawrence, Byrne, Bacon and her hotness, Ms. Jones. plus, Matt Vaughn.

it's just that i SOOOOO wanted fox to make X4, right after X3, to resolve many of the plot's loose ends and maybe just be done with the franchise and to start anew. b'sides, those actors are really getting too old for this genre...even Hugh Jackman.

then, there's the inconsistencies between Wolverine and this latest one, especially regarding Ms. Frost.

i think First Class should've just been a REBOOT of the franchise, still with McAvoy and Fassbender as leads.
AskaniSon - 5/21/2011, 12:25 PM
As I said when they announced the film: it'll be a good movie, and a poor adaptation. My faith in Vaughn's skills was well placed, it seems.
TotalChaos57 - 5/21/2011, 12:28 PM
Awesome!! Less than two weeks..I'm so stoked!

If Fox hires a bad director than chances are they are going to make a bad film. Directors make movies, studios finance them.
