Bryan Singer Returning to the X-Men?

The director who helped launch the X-Men said that he likes to "trick audiences into thinking they're seeing fireworks" when he's really commenting on social issues.
Bryan Singer, the director of the first two installments of the X-Men franchise, said that he is ready to return to the property. At the South Korean Pusan International Film Festival, Singer said:

"I'm still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I've been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast."

Singer said that he enjoys using the X-Men and science fiction to comment on important real-world issues:

"The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is — the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition."

The prodigal sellout returns.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 8:06 AM
It's time for new blood! And, while we're at it, can we please get rid of the all-leather X-Men costumes? I mean, look at that picture above...that doesn't look like the X-Men!
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:14 AM
I don't know. He did make XM 1 and X2 which are great, but he did make Superman Returns and that wasn't faithful to the comics at all, but it was solid. I just don't know. I'd rather they just start with First Class and get a fresh take on the X-Men in there, with a new director and cast.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:15 AM
Huh? How is he a sell out?

Im sure we will be getting a whole host of comments about how Singer [frick]ed up the X Men because Wolverine wasn't wearing yellow [frick]ing banana spandex and all sorts of other pedantic crap. The dude made one very good and one excellent movie. Anyone that claims to be an X Men fan, that is, actually reads comics and not just looks at the pictures, should know that the X Men were always about reflecting the injustices of society and as Singer says, the human condition. Sure they also had awesome action and stuff and maybe he should have done some more visually, but action nuts are always going to bemoan the lack of action in any movie no matter how good it is. Apparently TDK wasn't great because there was no action! Jesus Christ, just look at explosions on Youtube or something if thats the most important thing to you in a movie. Anyway, Rant over...commence the "Singer is gay and stupid" campaign.
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 8:17 AM
@Ror: Dude, I didn't say Wolverine should wear spandex yellow--the brown costume would have been nice--but look at that picture: it looks like a teeny-bopper biker gang, not the X-Men. And, c'mon, Wolverine's mask is one of the most iconic masks in comics and we never get to see it!
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:20 AM
@Ror: I get where you're coming from and I saw some social commentary in Singer's films, but he didn't really make any controversial moves with these films. He could have gone way deeper into the social comparisons between the civil rights movement--which was the basis for Stan Lee's original concept--and the gay rights movement--which is the current basis in the comics (X-Men are even living in San Francisco).
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:23 AM
I don't have anything against Singer personally or anything(but we are f*cking done professionally), I just want to see a new take on the franchise, and bring some new life back into it.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:25 AM
@Tyler: I agree, which was my first statement (and the first thing I thought when I read this headline): the franchise should move forward, but let's bring in someone with some fresh eyes.
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:27 AM
Bijous I actually wasn't referencing your post with that! We posted at the same time. And I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to see some variation on the costume myself, I;m just sick of people saying the movies sucked simply BECAUSE of the lack of costumes and stuff from the comic. As for the making the movies more in depth and controversial, dude i really think he did the absolute most he could with a big budget studio sci fi movie. Can you imagine the fanboy outrage if he had anyway! Some people already think those movies were too "talky" as is.
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 8:28 AM
Well this is good news!!

X2 & 1 was [frick]ing good, he'll bring back the magic of X-MEN and we can forget about the other two!!! ; D
LEEE777 - 10/11/2009, 8:30 AM
@Ror: How would you have Singer progress? What angle/storyline would you want to see him take it in?
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:32 AM
Singer did a great job with the first 2 X-movies. Sure, the costumes weren't the best, and he may not have been THE most faithful to the comics (he was still faithful, but not towards some of the characters), but he made damn fine X-films.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:33 AM
@Tyler: I'll ask you the same question I asked Ror: how should the storyline progress? What's next? Sinister? Apocalypse? Shi'Ar?
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:36 AM
Well, Apocalypse/Sinister are due for their screen time for sure. They would be the next logical step in the franchise IMO.

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:37 AM
Ror its too bad you hate me lol cuz i agree with every single thing you said. :)
CaptainAmerica - 10/11/2009, 8:38 AM
At least it doesn't say Bret Rattner or that would suck.

I think Singer should come back. X2 was really cool and a new trilogy with Apocalypse would be the shit.

By the way check out Green Arrow:Savage Hunt
BatmanKnight - 10/11/2009, 8:39 AM
Here's the plot run-down:

X1: There are mutants. One mutant leader is good and wants to be friends with humans; the other leader is bad and wants to turn everyone into mutants or kill them off.
X2: Parents hate mutant children and so does the government.
X3: Many mutants want to be "cured" and those that don't should be anyway.
X4: ?
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:40 AM
I'm not even saying I want to see him return to it, I wouldn't mind but new blood is good too..provided they don't go all Ratner on it again. If he was to continue, I would love to see either Sinister or Apocalypse. I would actually love to see Angel become Archangel more than most things. For continuity I guess I wouldn't mind Ben Foster again, but how wrong was he for that role! I mean hes a great actor, but Angel??

Cap, I don't hate you, I just hate your damn posts!
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 8:40 AM
X4 = CABLE!!! ; D
LEEE777 - 10/11/2009, 8:41 AM
Did somebody say....BRET RATTNER?!

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:42 AM
@Ror/Tyler: I think Sinister is the next logical plotline for the franchise because it plays into the previous themes (see my comment above) about creating/curing mutants, etc. In the comics, Sinister was working behind-the-scenes with DNA for years, even experimenting with Cyclops and Jean Grey (can we go back to calling her Marvel Girl ever?).
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:43 AM
@Tyler: Back atcha!

Bijous - 10/11/2009, 8:46 AM

IronMarvel - 10/11/2009, 8:48 AM

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 8:49 AM
Cool bring on singer

but it must b hard with the costumes tho cuz lez face it if u were 2 put the actual costumes into a real life move...erm it would suck..trying to take hugh jackman seriously as wolverine while seeing him run around in yellow (or brown) spandex would bother me and look a lil gay on the big screen...hmm i dunno...no leather and no spandex please
TheLivingWeapon - 10/11/2009, 9:00 AM
@TheLivingWeapon: I totally disagree. You're basically taking the "superhero" out of it by removing the costumes, turning it into a Wanted-style sci-fi series. If you're gonna do a superhero movie, then don't be ashamed to make it a superhero movie, is what I say.
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 9:02 AM
You buncha pussies! : D

BIJOUS @ You got a point!
LEEE777 - 10/11/2009, 9:07 AM
SINGER LEFT US HANGING, FOR SUPERMAN, AND IT CAME OUT NOT QUITE INCREDIBLE...STAY AWAY TRAITOR..YOU LEAVE ME AN NOW YOU WANT ME BACK, YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE AND YOU LEFT ME FOR SUPERMAN, AN YOU SCREWUP AND NOW YOU WANNA COME BACK?NO..NO WAY I WANT SOMEONE NEW SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS ME, WHO'S GONNA TAKE CARE OF BUISNESS, SOMEONE FAITHFUL..X-MEN DUMPER..TOO LATE..GET ZACK SNYDER
GUNSMITH - 10/11/2009, 9:09 AM
@Ror: I believe your comment was directed at me, so here's my obvious answer -

Singer abandoned the X-Men franchise in pre-production to follow his Superman dream. Superman Returns went bust so now he's trying to tickle the studio's fancy in hopes of returning. That's why I consider him a sellout.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:21 AM
Let's get Snyder for everything now right? Superman, X-Men, give him Fantastic Four while we're at it!

Seriously, I see this guy's name suggested for just about every CBM nowadays, it's quite repetitive.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 9:21 AM
We NEED Singer back. A new director could work out but look at Gavin Hood. Fox knows Singer is money and would give him the freedom to make the X movie he wants to make. If youre mad Singer left X Men, why not let him return. If anyone needs to leave a comic franchise its Sam Raimi. Spiderman 2 rocked, but enough of the tragic villains looking for forgiveness and MJ in trouble.
stark - 10/11/2009, 9:22 AM
@LivingWeapon: No leather or spandex? What do you want them to wear, Hammer pants and Z Cavariccis? I'm sure you loved seeing Jackman in his two hour wife-beater commercial.

@Multi: "...two hour wife-beater commercial." ROTFL!!!
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 9:29 AM
I agree with Bijous, a superhero movie should show superheroes. Watchmen was good, despite everyone wearing spandex outfits. Hasn't Marvel proved that it worked with Iron Man, Spiderman and the Hulk?

We have our non-suit wearing Heroes on television already, I don't need to see the same thing in theatres as well.

Suit up!!! Oh, and I don't have a problem with Singer. The problem with new blood, means new direction and I would love to see how Singer would clean up Radner's X-3 situation.

@stopdropandroll: Hopefully with a bottle of bleach and some lime

BTW you have the best username ever!
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:37 AM
@stop/Bijous: Sorry, LivingWeapon, I also agree that costumes are a must in a superhero flick. Yes, they can be done poorly and cheese out the film, but they can also be done brilliantly. It's part of the comic book "convention" that they wear costumes. You just have to accept that going into the film. Leaving it out is like taking salt out of your diet: it leaves everything bland.
Brent Sprecher - 10/11/2009, 9:39 AM
I will say this again for the cheap seats in the back: It is a MAJOR cop out for a director or a studio to say that a superhero costume doesn't translate well to screen when they don't even try it. With reboots being all the rage right now I would think some director would have the balls to put these guys in their costumes (spandex and all) and let the GENERAL AUDIENCE decide if they like it or not. If it doesn't work out I'm sure the studio will reboot it in a few years.

If the studios are SO against the costumes why do they license this crap:

Wolverine (Yellow costume) MOC Pictures, Images and Photos
Wolverine classic adult costume Pictures, Images and Photos
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:41 AM
But a sellout is someone who compromises their ideals or principals and such for money. Singer made some movies..then he made another movie, and now he wants to revisit the first set of movies. How does that in any way make him a sell out? When he left the X franchise it was actually in pretty good hands with Mathew Vaughn at the time..it was only after he left that Ratner came aboard. And Supes Returns turned out, at least imo, to be a damn good movie. I'm sure Singer would have loved to make a sequel..hopefully with less reverence of Donner and some more action(Dead super kid would help too!) but its not his call.
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 9:43 AM
@Ror/Multi: I agree with Ror on this one. You can't fault a guy for wanting to make a Superman movie. C'mon! If someone asked you if you wanted to do it--and you were a big fan and they were going to pay you $4million--how could you possibly refuse? At least he respects his work and the characters enough to want to return.

I was so pissed off when I read that Gerard Butler's reason for not wanting to do another 300 was that he doesn't like graphic novels. What kind of lame-@$$ $#it is that?
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 9:46 AM
@Ror: I liked Superman Returns, but I'm not talking about the quality of that film or of the X-Men films. He's a sellout because he let the fans down. He's a sellout because he left his envisioned trilogy in the hands of someone else to finish. What if Lucas had done the same with Star Wars? Now that his Superman movie dreams are down the crapper, he wants to edge back into X-Men. In my opinion, that shows bad form. Does that mean I don't want him back for another run? Not at all. But it's going to take alot to make me respect him again.

@Bijou: I get the point, who wouldn't want to follow their dream project? He took a gamble and it didn't pay off. I don't expect people to just apologize for their mistakes, I expect them to work hard at correcting them. If he's willing to make up for what happened to the X franchise by making another one, he'd better knock it out of the park.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:47 AM
@Multi: Did you read my comment above yours?
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 9:48 AM
@Bijous: Did you read my comment above your comment about the above comment?
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:52 AM
So far the X-Men movies include one total disaster, one disgraceful mess, one barely passable, and one sort of ok film. Why is Singer worshiped for being the guy who did the barely passable and sort of ok ones?

I say screw hacks and bring on a real director for some of these future X-Films.

Marty you have done it all, it all except for a superhero film, give me Scorsese for Wolverine 2.
David Fincher for X4.
Darren Arronofsky for Magneto
FateSucks - 10/11/2009, 9:53 AM
@Multi: My point is...how could you turn down the opportunity to direct Superman if you're a fan? Answer: you couldn't (especially with the $ involved).
Bijous - 10/11/2009, 9:54 AM
@Fate: Damn, calling in the big guns! I like the philosophy - play hard or don't play at all
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:55 AM
@Bijous: I agree with you! But how could someone expect to walk back into a franchise that they helped send down the sh*ter?
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:56 AM
David Fincher for Deadpool dude.

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 9:57 AM
Ryan Reynolds for X-Men 4
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 9:58 AM
@Multi: I have many problems with Singer's films, but I think your logic is a tad flawed in this instance. You say, "how could someone expect to walk back into a franchise that they helped send down the sh*ter?" Maybe he feels that what he started was ruined by Ratner and he wants a chance to make it right (whether his "right" is what we all want to see or not is, of course, open to debate).
Brent Sprecher - 10/11/2009, 9:59 AM
@Brent: If I missed him actually admitting that his departure was a key factor to the franchise going downhill, I might change my perspective on him. But I haven't heard any remorse and it just sounds like he wants to jump from one bandwagon to the next.

I consider X1 and X2 mediocre CBM, fun to watch but that's about it. If this guys wants to come back to X-Men I think he should be trying to convince the fans that it's in their best interest to have him back.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 10:04 AM
im sorry

i love wolvie in the comics in the yellow

and i thought that watchmen was a piece of crap

so if ur tryna convince me by using that as a comparison then you ain won me...give wolvie a mask? hell yea!! give him a tigh fitting, bright yellow outfit? haha no

buh i will say some leather outfits can look ok..i didnt mind the daredevil outfit, ghost rider or spiderman

but you have 2 understand if the directors are going for realism in the movies then the exact costumes WILL NOT translate well...nuff said
TheLivingWeapon - 10/11/2009, 10:05 AM
@fatsucks..haha, now that is something I thin k we could all agree would be something worth seeing! Man, Fincher and Aronofsky could make some fantastic CBM's.

Poni..well, fair enough if your mad at him for leaving the franchise, I just don't think he's a sellout for it. I mean he didn't do it for the money, like Bijous said he wanted to make a Superman movie and the opportunity arose, and like I said before, the movie was in safe hands when he left. Apparently it was a completely different movie, different script, the whole shebang under Vaughn.

Living weapon, yeah I agree...except for the Watchmen being a piece of crap..I loved it!
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 10:08 AM
@LivingWeapon: Realism? Really? So adamantium retractable claws, an SR71 vertical takeoff and optic blasts are realistic?

LOL I'm just messing with you. I just don't get why these directors get to make the call of what audiences think is believable and what's not. After all, it's fantasy. Costumes should be the LEAST of their realism worries.

@Ror: Like I said before, i'm ok with him coming back to the X franchise as long as he makes a phenomenal film. Not mediocre, not ok. . it better be great.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 10:08 AM
At least with Singer we know we can expect a quality film. If they reboot, choose another director, or go another direction with the storyline, there's no telling what kind of mess they'll wind up with. Comic book movies are a fairly new Hollywood commodity, and they're still trying to figure out who has the skillset to successfully direct them. Clearly, some directors have no idea how to create a believable world for these characters, so I'm perfectly happy if they stick with someone like Singer who has proven himself.

(At least he proved himself with these particular characters. The fact that he flubbed up so badly with Superman just goes to show how delicately this stuff needs to be handled.)
Velox - 10/11/2009, 10:11 AM
I think Zack Snyder should direct Wolverine 2 and Bryan Singer for either Magneto or First Class.
Ozymandias - 10/11/2009, 10:15 AM
lol that's my main beef with Singer.. It's that he dropped the ball on the X Men right when we needed him the most.

And for anybody that wants to complain that Singer may be coming back - look at it this way- He sure beats the hell out of Ratner! He's better than The Rat 100 times over!

So suck it up. I basically look at this as good news.
DarthMulder - 10/11/2009, 10:16 AM
@MultiPurposePoni

fair enuff ok

but for the people who ain comic fans like the rest of us iz gd that we can make adimantium claws be believable
but if u wanna add sum cheesy costumes to the mix..gunna make it luk a bit like a joke...think if in the real world people had powers like that..do you honestly think they would dress up like that? my answer 2 that would b hell nah!
TheLivingWeapon - 10/11/2009, 10:19 AM
Me too, Darth. So he left the franchise...Boo Hoo. Let's move on and let him make a film that we can be relatively sure will be a quality one. Hell, I have problems with Raimi's Spider-man, but since I have to admit that he's got a good handle on the character, I'm perfectly happy to have him stick around as long as he's willing. Because God knows what kind of mess another director might make of things.

@LivingWeapon: But, that's the problem with your whole argument...this IS a comic book movie. And, in comic books, the people with powers WEAR COSTUMES! That's what the genre is all about.

And, hell yeah! If I could fly or walk through walls I would wear whatever the hell I want. I certainly wouldn't shop at the GAP or wear SeanJohn.

well, actually, in grant morrison's run of The New X-Men they DID all wear all-leather costumes that were identical to each other. and i could be wrong, but i believe the first movie came out during that run. i've never been one to complain about the costumes in these super hero movies because you can't sake the costumes from the comics and put them on screen, they would look silly.

If handled properly, the costumes wouldn't look silly at all.

I think the question regarding what the next story should be is still unanswered. Other than a bad ass mutant and an interesting cover up what does mr. sinister really bring? I mean I suppose it would be cool to talk about eugenics and experimenting on humans, but I feel like it would be seen as to similar to the third (even though it was woefully undeveloped).

Reboot it all to the Kirby Lee stuff, Beast Angel Cyclops Iceman and Jean Grey, leave wolverine out till the 2nd movie
ClintEastwood - 10/11/2009, 10:41 AM
The thing is that there is no reason for the X-Men to wear costumes. Spider-Man, Batman, Daredevil all wore them in the films to hide their identity. Why does Wolverine have to hide his identity? It wouldnt make sense.

@Ror, oh ok :)
CaptainAmerica - 10/11/2009, 10:44 AM
They should just start a new series with First Class. Get back to the basics. X3 was far too crammed, over-populated with characters, and convoluted.

MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 10:47 AM
Personally, I didn't have a problem with the X-Men not wearing their comic costumes. That movie worked without them.

There are some movies that I may not accept without outfits. I can't imagine the Avengers without costumes. I don't want to see Thor running around in a Brooks Brothers suit screaming he's the son of Odin. I don't want the Hulk smashing things in a tight leather suit. And I don't want to see Captain America without the star on his chest. Nor do I want to see him with a shield that can be fitted on a motorcycle.
stopdropandroll - 10/11/2009, 10:49 AM
CaptainAmerica: It could make sense since the characters are tied to the Professor's school. If they were seen without masks, then they could be traced back to the school, and the purpose of the school is to be a safe haven for the mutants of the world. It would be compromised if they were found out.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 10:50 AM
I've said this a million times on here-- the next THREE need to be written as a trillogy, not one at a time. That way they can CORRECTLY set up Apocalypse and Sinister. The Sentinels should be the primary antagonists in X4 with Sinister and Apocalypse lurking in the background.
MetalHead - 10/11/2009, 10:53 AM
Poni, those X Force outfits are cool alright. But in fairness, without the masks theres not a lot of difference between the ones they used in the movies and them anyway!

I am very worried about how Cap America's costume will look. I think they should Ultimate him up a little. Has anyone read the new Ultimate Avengers? That suit is the way to go..or maybe just a combination of the two.
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 10:54 AM
Ror: I love the Ultimate Cap costume, probably more than the classic one. With the solo film, I want them to do the WW2 costume though, since that is the premise for the movie. Essentially this:

Then Avengers would be Ultimate Cap
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 11:00 AM
@Ror: "But in fairness, without the masks theres not a lot of difference between the ones they used in the movies and them anyway"

Exactly, the main problem is no mask. Plus, if you just put everyone is the matching leather uniforms it takes a bit of their comic identity away, don't you think?

@Tyler: I think you're gonna like my Halloween constume ;)
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 11:06 AM
Tyler, yep, cant go wrong with that one, it looks class.

Poni, to be honest I really don't mind the tank top thing, its just not that important to me as long as they nail the character. And in the origin movie it really is moot because he wouldn't have worn a costume back then anyway.
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 11:09 AM
I think the black costumes r sweet, i cant c them in there yellow or blue bright outfits. How can you take dem seriously, and if the story is realistic. If campy it should be bright but how many audience would like to c x men in bright costumes??? only few, while some none fans or fans alike would like it realistic. They should stick with the black outfits. Im glad his thinking of coming back 2 the franchise cause they need the original guy who brought xmen to the big screen to do it like the 1st 2 movies agian. If your thinking of new director, and new actors and actress, it might bomb hard and where they going 2 go next with dat??? if singers x4 bombs hard they can jus go reboot, but i would like 2 c x4 cause i wanna c sinister or apacolypes.
xXkryptoniteXx - 10/11/2009, 11:11 AM
My biggest beef with the costumes was the lack of individuality between the X-Men. I want the costumes to fit one particular member, and be based off his/her powers, personality, and other attributes to them. The movie costumes were all identical, save for the color of the highlights in them, which you could barely see, and Storm had a cape. That's it. The costumes should reflect who each character is.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 11:13 AM
@Ror: Actually, Wolvie wore costumes throughout his origin story (Team X, Department K and Alpha Flight). Hood just choose to omit all that comic origin stuff and throw Gambit in there as a consolation prize.

@Tyler: Well put. A character's identity and powers were always reflected on their costume. Now they all look like. . . bikers
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 11:13 AM
haha, 2 articles, same posts! I replied on the Hood one...

I personally think brightly colored outfits would look ridiculous. Yes its a fantasy, but even fantasy has to have a certain reality relative to the world its supposed to exist in. Obviously I don't KNOW that it would look silly, but all you have to do is picture it! I mean theres only so many ways a man can wear a bright yellow spandex outfit
RorMachine - 10/11/2009, 11:18 AM
@Ror: Why does it have to be yellow spandex? Wolvie has had a bunch of costumes over the years - brown/tan, yellow, X-Force, black, Astonishing, feral, they couldn't pick one?

And I don't want to hear people saying that the X-Men movies reflected Grant Morrison's take on X-Men because the movie came out before the comic. Morrison based his characters on the movie versions (he even made Logan look more like Jackman and put him in a wife-beater). If you don't believe me go check Marvel.com
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 11:24 AM
Really?? After destroying superman and bailing out from X3? FU Singer. We need a new director and a new CYCLOPS. Everything else should stay the same.
TheHumanBurrito - 10/11/2009, 11:29 AM
X-men franchise was good under Singer!

However keep him well away from Superman!
BigNick - 10/11/2009, 11:34 AM
I wish that he would collaborate with another director, him for drama, the other guy for action, xmen seems like a soap opera.
ClintEastwood - 10/11/2009, 11:37 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the whole point of most costumes where to hide your true identity. So the real question is it more or less believable that super-powered humans would be running around "NOT" trying to hide who they are from those that would prey on their family, friends etc. Answer. No.
IsaiahBradley - 10/11/2009, 11:44 AM
@Isaiah: Well said
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 11:51 AM
@ror honestly i hated TDK because compared to batman begins it was a pathetically acted love story with the guy with the funny voice. heath did [frick]ing amazing i cant say a damn thing bad about him, or two face. i hate the Nolan brothers interpretation of batmans villeins because they want realistic real world villans. how about you just piss on every batman comic in existence and leave it at that. The only ones left to choose from are ones who have been around for like 20 years tops i want some batman legends on the screen that aren't joker riddler or two face. And no robin is just an insult he is more important to the batman universe then Christian i [frick]ed up John Conner Bale or the nolan brothers. no hush no dead shot no [frick]ing assassins. killer croc for batman 3. the riddler is my favorite but only if the cast someone just like frank Gorshin just like they did with Jim carrey
bleedthefreak16 - 10/11/2009, 11:53 AM
Wow a lotof hate for the X-Men series. It can be fixed, easily. So @Leee NO REBOOTS! HAWK SMASH REBOTOS!

Here is a list ofcomplaints about why the series needs a reboot:

1. Scott died in X-3
2. Kenny, I mean Jean Died in X-3
3. Professor X died in X-3
4. It wasn't the original line up
5. They didn't have their original costumes
6. It wasn't true to the comics enough
7. It had too many characters
8. It focused on Wolverine too much
9. Halle Barry took over X-3
10. Ben Foster as Angel

And here are some responses to those complaints in order

1. Did you see a body for Scott? no? then how can you be sure he is dead. He could easily have been taken away by Sinister or another villain.

2. She is teh Kenny of Marvel. she ALWAYS DIES. You could easily adapt the Inferno storyline and say that it was the Madelyne Pryor clone made by Mister Sinister.

3. If you listen to the commentary to X-3 the film makers stated that the body that the kids see in ethics class is Xavier's brain dead twin brother. When they were in the womb Xavier's mind wiped his brothers, leaving him a shell. And Xavier transfered his mind to it. They fixed their own error.

4. So what if it wasn't the original 5. Angel and Iceman made it in the series anyway. If you want you can say a three year old Bobby was at the school ;P

5. As for costumes... Would you really wnat to see Hugh Jackman running around in yellow spandex, ladies don't answer that.

6. They ca improve on that by working adapting stories in the future

7. Would you have prefered only five x-men and thats it for teh whole series, no new villains or characters, jsut five? It would get old.

8. Put the focus on other characters as well.

9. Ditch her.

10. He was bad as Angel in X-3, but that isn't his fault. He was abd at the Angel WRITTEN for him. As a writer I can say that was not the actors fault. And even though eh would be bad as Angel, he would be a perfect Archangel.

Come and get me boys, sharpen those spears, I'm ready for ya!

HAWK out
THEHAWK - 10/11/2009, 12:27 PM
Think Brian Singer would be THE director of X-men 4. But please no yellow spandex for Wolverine! Maybe Iceman could be more like in the comicbooks.

DrStrange - 10/11/2009, 12:38 PM
Brian singer can save his baby xmen might not have been the way we all wanted it to be but IT WAS AWESOME you look back and there are certain things u wish hed change like rogue being able to fly and what not or gambit being in the series from the start or storm having an african accent but other than that IT was great a masterpiece compared to Origins and way better than the last stand so i hope he comes back puts that charm on it so i can get into xmen again but either way the first 2 were so good im willing to watch the 3rd just becuase ya know but origiins ...not so much

phenomenon - 10/11/2009, 1:14 PM
@Brent Sprecher nice one getting this up, this great news and i love the pic at the top never seen it b4

@hawk totally agree, if they dont put focus on other charactors im gonna give up with this series, i never thort id say that, i love x men, and love all the films but others need the spot light, cyclops , rouge, beast, collosos needs the spot light, dont even need wovlverine back in , till like say the end of x six , when they really busting for some help. christ these directors , producers and writers all read our stuff, so by now they most have got the message. everone pretty much want the same thing here cyclops against sinister with a build up too apocalpse.

im well pleased that singers back, i was about to just shout out thers no way there ever make x men films work again, it all too way complicated to please everybody, but with singer back at the wheel there is hope.

ha ha i wonder if hell bring back juggernault!

Warpath27 - 10/11/2009, 1:44 PM
I definitely want Bryan Singer to return. He is and always will be the best X-Men director period.
akthunder - 10/11/2009, 1:44 PM
NO, NO and NOOOOOOO!!!!

I do not want this asshole anywhere near a superhero movie ever again!!! He [frick]ed up Superman by making a glorified parody of the original 70's movie (as well as creating a Superman who didnt so much as throw a punch) and screwed up the X-Men by filling the movie with his feelings about homophobia which he disguised as the whole "anti-mutant" stuff which was a big part of the original comic books sure but not to the overblown extent he used in X-1 and X-2!

I hated both of his X movies more than I did the terrible X-Men 3! Senator Kelly turning into water? Cyclops being a whiney little bitch? Teenage Iceman and Rogue? All of it was utter shit!!!
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 1:49 PM
Josh: Goosfraba dude (I hope you've seen Anger Management, or else that joke will fall more flat than Kate Bosworth as Lois!)

josh: So, what you're saying is, Singer coming back isn't a terrible idea?
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 1:56 PM
TYLER: LMAO! That's a great movie man! Just dont ask me to sing, "I feel pretty..." :) But damn, this news has pissed me off!

MULTI: Lol, well I know some people wouldnt think so but after Ratner nearly killed off the franchise, I just think that Singer would be the final nail in the X-Men's collective coffin! :( I agree with you comment at the top about him being a sellout - the sad thing is that he went from [frick]ing up one franchise to killing another! (Superman has a son!??! AAAARRRGGGHHHH!) ;)
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:01 PM
the only one who had a costume that looked close to the comics was magneto
thedarkknight666 - 10/11/2009, 2:06 PM

JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:11 PM
Multi: LMAO!! She really was terrible, wasn't she? I thought Returns was a solid movie. I would say it was a terrible Superman film, but it was a good movie in it's own right.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 2:12 PM
thedarkknight666: I still cant believe that Wolverine borrowed Cyclops' costume in X-1! Talk about bland, anonymous outfits! They could of at least put some colour in the costumes to make them a tiny bit unique!
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:14 PM
@josh: If Singer isn't attuned the characters of X-Men at the same level that JFav is with Iron Man, he should just stay away. The X franchise needs a true fan at it's helm to bring it to the apex of critical acclaim it deserves.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 2:18 PM
Black leather is on it's way OUT my friends! Did you guys see Singer's idea for Wolvie's new costume?

I think it's just fabulous. White tank tops and jeans are SO last year
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 2:22 PM
I RANTED ON THE COSTUME ISSUE IN THE GAVIN HOOD ARTICLE..CHECK IT..SPANDEX..YOU HAVE TO BE A RETARD DIRECTOR TO EVEN SAY SPANDEX WHEN YOU HAVE A WHOLE WORLD OF MEDIUMS TO USE, IF YOUR GOING TO SCRAP IN THE REAL WORLD, YOU USE LEATHER OR SOMETHING RUGGED,MAKE THINGS WORK AND BE TRUTHFUL TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL.
GUNSMITH - 10/11/2009, 2:23 PM
MULTI: Exactly! The director should at least have some knowledge of the characters! I think I heard somewhere that he'd never even read am X-Men comic book before starting work on the first film! Now that isnt the end of the world but his lack of knowledge of the characters was pretty apparent IMO! Its like he didnt even bother looking at the comic books in preperation even if he hadnt read them when he was kid! Just imagine if we had had X-Men 1 with Sentinels and Magneto vs the X-Men rather than melting senators and the most non thretening Magneto I've ever seen!

When I saw X-Men back in 2000, I hadnt yet read an X-Men comic book (I was 10 and only got into reading comic books the next year) but when I finally did, I couldnt believe how far off the movie versions were to the real things! I think its the way that Cyclops was portrayed that angers me the most!
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:31 PM
BRING ON ZACK SNYDER, AT LEAST HE READS THE DAMN BOOKS AND CARES ABOUT SOURCE MATERIAL IN A DEEPER MANNER THAN MOST DIRECTORS, AND HECK IS HE DOES HERO SUITS, HE DOES IT IN A WAY THAT WORKS, I THOUGHT THE OWL COSTUME ACTUALLY LOOKED COOLER THAT THE BOOK VERSION.SURE HE DIDN'T DO THE SQUID, BUT DUDE, HE WAS SPOT ON WITH EVERYTHING ELSE..
GUNSMITH - 10/11/2009, 2:36 PM
With the exception of Wolverine, these costumes would work brilliantly in the next X-Men movie! Better than those souless leather outfits anyway!

Uncanny_X-Men_497_v
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:38 PM
I love the first 2 X-films, but I can see where they strayed from the comics, particularly in the characterizations of some....er.....characters. But I think they remained overall pretty faithful to the comics.

They did really get Cyke all wrong. They made him not confidant, leader-like, or tough at all. I didn't think he was the leader of the team for a second.

They did mess up Storm a bit, but that could be mostly attributed to Halle's awful performances, but I don't think the way they wrote her was so faithful either. Naomie Harris should be the next Storm.

No Zack Snyder, please no. He is wrong for the X-Men. I could see him with the Wolverine sequel, but his style is just wrong for the X-Men as a whole.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 2:39 PM
TYLER-CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY HE'S WRONG?..I'D LOVE TO KNOW THE ZACK CONS..

JoshW - 10/11/2009, 2:54 PM
im sorry guys, i know what you saying bout costumes, but while trying to keep things real here, having all the x men discussing , what there costumes should be like makes them sound like there a bunch of wimps, can you really see marvel girl in her out fit, for me it all about the powers, not what mask they should wear. i guess having wolvrine in origins 2 , have his costume tie in with the oriental theme.

i love the film out fits, changing them now would be just plane stupid. is the idea of having these black out fits because there pratical to go on a mission with.

i mean i know emma frosts out fit is sexy , but come she harldy gonna be alble to fight a war in some high heels!
Rolanddeschain19 - 10/11/2009, 2:54 PM
Gunsmith: Way too dark. X-Men aren't all dark characters.

Too violent. I don't want to see Cyclops shoot a laser beam and it cuts a guy's arm off and blood starts spurting everywhere.

Slo-mo action. Don't want a lot of speed up, slow down action.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/11/2009, 2:57 PM
@Roland: We're talking about superheroes, not soldiers. Singer tried making their costumes like basic training 'initial issue' uniforms. Their costumes represent their persona. Having them all in thick leather suits was a cop out to putting thought into individualistic suits that would work on screen.

You want to talk realism, then when have any of you EVER seen any Fighters wearing head to toe leather? It affords absolutely no mobility! If you have a real world example, please show it to me. If not, stop saying it's realistic that agile superheroes would wear leather jumpsuits.

Oh, and regarding Emma Frost. When you're one of the most powerful telepaths in the MU and your battles are within the mind, you could go into a battle wearing tube sock and a yamacha and still have an edge over everyone else.

@Brent: You asked me a question earlier. In case you didn't see it, here's my answer - If I missed Singer actually admitting that his departure was a key factor to the franchise going downhill, I might change my perspective on him. But I haven't heard any remorse and it just sounds like he wants to jump from one bandwagon to the next.

I consider X1 and X2 mediocre CBMs, fun to watch but that's about it. If this guys wants to come back to X-Men I think he should be trying to convince the fans that it's in their best interest to have him back.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 3:04 PM
To be honest, I would have rather NONE of the characters had a costume/uniform/suit on for X-Men 1. From the tone of the movie, the X-Men had never faced off against Magneto or any other threat before. Why would they need to stockpile suits? The smart thing to gauge audience reaction would have been to have them in regular clothes in X1, they encounter their first threat (Magneto) and then have them create outfits before X-Men 2 began.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 3:17 PM
Right, why can't Emma have a sexy outfit that reflects her personality? It's not like old Charlie Xavier was wearing Kevlar while sitting "defenceless" in his wheelchair.

Reducing the characters outfits to some uniform leather jumpsuit thingies that'd only provide protection against, idk, falling from a bike was not the best thing anyone could have come up with.
Kyos - 10/11/2009, 3:22 PM
Singer made X-2 which I feel is right next to Batman Begins, and Watchmen as the best comic movies ever. I'd welcome him back with open arms. That mother f**k Ratner dare put a Sentinel in the danger room scene in X-3 without the Sentinels ever being explained. X-3 should have set up the development of the Sentinel program, but because Ratner likes to suck his own d**k we got screwed
ASSASSIN666 - 10/11/2009, 3:34 PM
No singer!!! Go away!!! No one wants you here!!! Shoo!!! Bad director!!! Not in the house!!!! We want new blood. Someone who actually cares about the x-men not some douche who wants to comment on society. Comment on society with anoter franchise!!! We've already established people don't like mutants.

It's time for Sinister to reveal himself and the Mutant Massacre to happen. Gambit to feel betrayed by Sinister and the Marauders and to release the real Jean Grey and Scott summers from sinisters secret lab where he was harvesting their DNA to create Cable. They all escape and join up with the X-men. Let's get the Apocalypse underway for part 5!!! We've been through enough filler movies, gives what we want now, please. It's not like it wouldn't be a blockbuster.

GUNSMITH - 10/11/2009, 4:09 PM
I would LOVE to see Emma Frost ina yarmulke and a tube sock!!!! Rowwwwrrrr!

If Singer can do a good job with the next X-Men movie, good on him. If not, time for someone else.

I would like to see a reboot, actually. Killed off TOO many characters in the first three.

And, I want to see the X-Men looking like the comics, and yes, that means the yellow coyote ear form-fit suit for Wolverine.

Frankly, I want to see Sentinels in the next one. The "Wolverine and the X-Men" cartoon series is a good place to start looking for good X-Men renditions.
bropous - 10/11/2009, 4:10 PM
singer might be a good choice for the next class, I don't think fanboys would give him another chance if he effed it up.

josh- sentinels would be just awesome, sinister too

multi- lets see this costume. how'd shield tempering turn out. my sons being cap this year too, we taped & painted a frisbee for him, kinda cool
verbicide - 10/11/2009, 4:22 PM
I vote they bring in Sinister and use him to fix the characters they depowered, my only problem would be that Sinister always gravitated around Scott and Jean and that concept is all shot to hell thanks to Fatner.
ComicChic - 10/11/2009, 4:44 PM
I want to see an X-men reboot! I wanna give Jackman the
Jackboot! Bring in Christian Kane for Wolverine, he's
short, built like a brick, and hairy & ferocious, perfect
for Wolvie!

Bring in a new younger Jean and add Emma Frost in that
skimpy tight white outfit! Add Gambit and Cable! I also
want to see WARPATH! And get Alex Proyas to direct (I
mean he already did Crow to perfection).

Do First Class with the first five including Angel and
reboot the timeline to fit the comic books.

SUCH A GOOD COSTUME IN CBM DEBATE, SOMEONES GONNA MAKE AN ARTICLE ON IT..BEST COSTUME=THE FLASH TV SERIES

@GUN: I'm with you there! That costume made me what to be the Flash and I've never been a fan of the character!

I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY OTHER COMIC BOOK COSTUME CAPTURE THAT LEVEL OF DETAIL, MUSCULATURE AND FLEXIBILITY THAT THAT FLASH COSTUME GOT..THE BATMAN COSTUME(EARLY BATMAN FILMS)HAD THE MUSCLE SUITS CAME CLOSE BUT WERE STIFF, THE BEGINS ARMOR WAS STIFF THE DARKNIGHT ONE IS ALL ARMOR....STILL FLASH TV SERIES IS THE BEST
GUNSMITH - 10/11/2009, 5:54 PM
Oh God. Will you guys quit complaining! The X-Men series is too successful for FOX to re-boot. And we had 2 good films by Singer that were enjoyable on many levels. So what if they didn't have the original 5. The balck leather costumes look cool, much better than yellow spandex and high heels.

And you guys were talking about how constrictive leather is, well Green Arrow in DC has worn leather off and on for decades, and he is fine. What about Batman's armor? It barely resembled his comics costume in TDK. You all complain about how the X-Men films were not accurate to the comics, well why don't you complain about how inaccurate The Dark Knight was? You don't because it was a good movie, as was X-Men and X-2.
THEHAWK - 10/11/2009, 6:08 PM
Multi@, can't wait to see you're cap costume! I say have
you play Cap America in the movie! I mean you're trying
to be an extra in Trans-vestite-formers 3 so I know you
would treat Cappy with the utmost respect he deserves and
you're a real soldier so you know all the ins and outs of
the military, know how Steve Rogers the super-soldier
should be!

And the TV Flash is the greatest costume ever for a super-
hero on the TV or in the movies! DD was the second best,
IMO!

WARPATH!!!
shibazz - 10/11/2009, 6:23 PM
Hawk-
If they did what you suggested, I'd be ok with that. Provided Singer stays away from the work, it could turn out ok. The fact that so many foul ups have to be addressed is discomforting. I'm in DDD's camp here. I think there is room for expansive improvement. Singer made huge headroom for this genre with Xmen. But that doesn't excuse all the errors. Fans were so giddy with excitement to see their heroes put to film, they were willing to look past its shortcomings(and still do). Singer wants back in because this franchise catapulted his career and reputation into overdrive. But by his own admission, he's not really a fan of this genre. Its money for him. And his motivations of talking about the human condition is his opportunity to push his own agenda. I know I'll recieve the wrath of Ror here, but Singer is just gay and stupid.
Phinehas - 10/11/2009, 6:24 PM
oh and lets not forget what that JackAzz did to SuperMan. No more Soup for him!

MultiPurposePoni - 10/11/2009, 6:29 PM
Awesome. But Singer must let Halle Berry fly alot this time and make Cyclops a fighter and the hero.
Torian Brown - 10/11/2009, 7:04 PM
Anytime I re-watch the awful X-1 or X-2, its clear that Singer knew jack shit about the characters. Just imagine how great X-Men 1 would have been if Magneto hadnt had a cheesy plan to basically turn people into water but had instead faced off against the X-Men with his Bortherhood of Mutants? Imagine how great iit would have been to see Wolverine vs. Sabertooth with Sabertooth perhaps dropping hints about Logans past instead of Wolverine vs. Wolverine (Mystique) The second film was no better for poor scenes and missed oppurtunities - just think of all the new mutants that Stryker could have been holding captive that they could have introduced! But what did we get? Cyclops vs. Jean Grey. Great. :(
JoshW - 10/11/2009, 7:34 PM
Josh: I would love to see an actual fight between the X-Men and the Brotherhood. That would be kick ass!

And P.S. Josh check out my Batman 3 cast in news!
