BOX OFFICE: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST May Earn Over $100M During Four Day Weekend

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in North America this Friday, and analysts are now predicting a $100 million debut for the movie over the four day Memorial Day weekend, meaning that it might just end up being the most successful X-Men movie yet. Hit the jump for details!

According to The Wrap, X-Men: Days of Future Past will likely hit the $100 million mark this Memorial Day weekend in North America. Either way, the debut of the "inbetweenquel" will mark the fifth time in the past eight weeks that a movie based on a Marvel comic book has been #1 at the box office. While it won't be taking up any IMAX screens, the follow-up to X-Men: First Class is going to be released in 3D. A 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes indicates that the response to X-Men: Days of Future Past has so far been very positive, and there's every chance it could exceed expectations. There was some concern that the legal issues surrounding Bryan Singer would have an impact on the movie's performance financially, but that clearly isn't the case. Are you looking forward to seeing it? X-Men: Days of Future Past's huge all-star cast includes Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Daniel Cudmore, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Adan Canto, Anna Paquin, Evan Peters and Ellen Page.

wow that is a lot! Damn!
Abary - 5/21/2014, 4:16 PM
That's actually pretty good. I suppose the Singer controversy had some impact, but I don't think it really affected anything here. Good for them.
PAF - 5/21/2014, 4:23 PM
IDK why would anyone be surprised. Plus its going to debut Memorial Day weekend, come one now.
ekrolo2 - 5/21/2014, 4:24 PM
Just saw the film, it was REALLY goddamn awesome and surprisingly character focused, especially on Charles, Erik and Raven as their actions pretty much effect all of mutant kind. Besides not enough of the fan[frick]ing tastic future segments, I really loved it all the way through.
ALegendaryPanda - 5/21/2014, 4:24 PM
I can't wait to see this tomorrow!! Ridiculously excited for this!
rockerdude22 - 5/21/2014, 4:25 PM
Wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the highest grossing entry in the franchise
MrBlackJack - 5/21/2014, 4:26 PM
Let time I checked it was suppose to hit $125 million.
AlexanderLykins - 5/21/2014, 4:27 PM

Bu bu bu bu but

But this is not a Marvel studios movie so by default People should be hating it right?

This most be a mistake... this is a conspirancy by DC fanboys

How can a x-men movie have such a great success if it is not made by MS

I call bollocks!!!
FilmsFan - 5/21/2014, 4:32 PM
I'm shocked it's not in IMAX!
It's gona be amazing in IMAX but no!

WHY is my question!

ezio619 - 5/21/2014, 4:33 PM

I know a lot of you have your doubts about it and believe me, I was pretty skeptical they could pull it off. But its really just a well acted movie with a lot of heart, great action and some hilarious situations & jokes. Its not a classic standard run of the mill CBM block buster where half the planet is in ruins by the end of the final act, the fights are a lot more restrained but personnel and brutal, especially the future segments.
SugarYumYum - 5/21/2014, 4:35 PM
Yeah, that's quite a bit down from the initial tracking. Guess we won't know until we get that Friday total.

The comments sections are going to be fun this weekend, sad I'm gonna miss it.
SuperCat - 5/21/2014, 4:36 PM
I believe it. I'll be seeing it on Sarurday.
DanteSparda - 5/21/2014, 4:37 PM
Now 94% on RT, fresh CBMs are cool!
KallarkKent - 5/21/2014, 4:37 PM
Tracking says about $120+ million, but after seeing Godzilla over performed I am really curious how much money it will actually earn.
Ranger14 - 5/21/2014, 4:38 PM
Which means on a regular three day weekend it would bring in $80 millionish? That's solid, but nothing earth shattering.

This will blow everything else away, most of this site is under 24 and dont realize how populare Xmen is between people 28-38, Id say its about 30-40x more popular than any avenger or avengers put together. The Xmen are just a more likeable and enjoyable product.
janitra - 5/21/2014, 4:39 PM
Movie was great, really great actually
Omarvls - 5/21/2014, 4:40 PM
Wait wasn't it 135 Million for Memorial weekend
now it's 100 million
MisterBabadook - 5/21/2014, 4:41 PM
Why do people on this site keep calling it an "inbetweenquel"? It's a sequel through and through. It's a sequel to the original 2/3, The Wolverine, and First Class all at the same time. "Sequel".
Vegeta - 5/21/2014, 4:41 PM
I've been sleeping on this movie for a hot minute with all the Dawn of Justice and GOTG news, but...

ekrolo2 - 5/21/2014, 4:41 PM

X2 is my favorite and while I still like that one more (nostalgia glasses and all that lol) I think this one combines the best of those two, its got the colorful and over the top superhero action you would find in an MCU film or in this case First Class with the gravitas and focus on the relationship between Eric & Charles along with the public perception of mutants in the original Singer movies.

Its kind of a best of both worlds all in one type of movie.
soforizo - 5/21/2014, 4:42 PM
I don't know if this can overperform like Godzilla. Godzilla has a cult-like following as its base, but we'll see.
BANE5000 - 5/21/2014, 4:43 PM
Yeah FOX would cheat by having a 4 day week end , wouldnt they? lol
ezio619 - 5/21/2014, 4:43 PM
OnePunchBaldy - 5/21/2014, 4:43 PM
The movie was damn near perfect. Not only the best CBM of the year (i really don't think Guardians can top this) and not only the best X-Men movie but dammit it's one of the best CBMs ever! Cap & X-Men really stole and killed it this year.
Bekss - 5/21/2014, 4:44 PM
Well, every big movie has been doing more than predictions lately, Thor, Lego, Cap, Neighbors, Godzilla, not Spiderman ;).
This could make a lot of money and tonight I'm gonna see if it is really that awesome
OnePunchBaldy - 5/21/2014, 4:44 PM
i tip my hat to Jackman, Fassbender and McAvoy yet again.
ezio619 - 5/21/2014, 4:44 PM
ekrolo-thats cool to hear!!, man, cant wait!!
TheRationalNerd - 5/21/2014, 4:45 PM

Nah, It was actually predicted to earn 125million.
Jaspion - 5/21/2014, 4:45 PM
Weren't all the summer blockbusters expected to earn this on their first weekend?

Cap 2, Spidey 2, Godzilla...
OnePunchBaldy - 5/21/2014, 4:45 PM
Not to mention this movie has star power and talent like no other, I'm excited to see it again tomorrow!
ezio619 - 5/21/2014, 4:45 PM
kidgoku-i hesitate when people say best...movies are its your favorite superhero film of the year so far, awesome!!!
McNyagano - 5/21/2014, 4:46 PM
Deserves it to be honest.

The deaths scenes were brutal man. Glad you enjoy it.
soforizo - 5/21/2014, 4:47 PM
Omarvls - 5/21/2014, 4:40 PM

Wait wasn't it 135 Million for Memorial weekend
now it's 100 million

It just says over $100M, maybe they're not giving a closer range OR Godzilla lower the prospects of it making it big. Deadline had mentioned the possibility of lower profits following Godzilla's big haul.
OnePunchBaldy - 5/21/2014, 4:47 PM

Yeah i know man, but trust me, it's incredible but that's just my opinion and since I really just am a film guy, I appreciate every aspect of it. I suggest having a marathon before you see it.
