Jane Goldman Says She Is "100% On Board" An X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Sequel..Should Vaughn Return To Direct

Mathew Vaughn's frequent collaborator tells MTV that she is more than happy to work on the script for the second First Class movie, but that will depend on whether the director returns himself..

We have heard quite a bit from Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and James McAvoy (Professor X) on where they would like to see their characters go in a sequel to X-Men: First Class, but we were never sure if a sequel would even happen until Fox hired Simon Kinberg to write the script. So now it looks as if we will get to see if their ideas will match up to whatever story is produced. But what of the writing/directing team that were such a large part of the firt movie's success? Well speaking to MTV Jane Goldman comments on both actors ideas for their characters, and reveals that she would be happy to work on (we assume re-writes on Kinberg's original draft) the script, but only if Vaughn should return too..

"James and Michael brought so much to them that I think it's entirely natural to be talking about where those characters would go next. It was inherent in their stories and their arcs. There are so many interesting places to go."

"In terms of what's going on with that, again from my point of view, it's down to what Matthew [Vaughn] decides to do. If he decides he wants to direct the next one and if he wants me on board, I'm 100 percent there."

And we likely won't know if Vaughn is on board until Kinberg delivers that script. So would you guys like to see Vaughn and Goldman return? Or would you rather a new team get a shot at bringing the X-Men to life?

She has 100% fake boobs.
RunDTC - 1/10/2012, 7:12 AM
they both need to return. my favorite movie of 2011.
KNIGHT3000 - 1/10/2012, 7:16 AM
Yea, she is hot!
spiderneil - 1/10/2012, 7:18 AM
@ graphic city

definately not fake. she dated jonathan ross when we was really young (late teens) and they were big even then. unless you're suggesting she had a boob job in her teens. well, it's possible but very unlikely
ManofSteel23 - 1/10/2012, 7:19 AM
They will do this both not kick-ass why? either way I loved both, they should go back to x-men they did a good job
BigK1337 - 1/10/2012, 7:20 AM

No . . . SENTINALS or GTFO!!!!
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 7:25 AM
Oh yay. Can we please get another "re-invention" of the X-Men and First Class movie without the actual First Class? Pretty please? I can't believe I am going to say this, but reboot or GTFO.
redleaf - 1/10/2012, 7:27 AM
Magneto was the best part of First Class. GTFO.
RyanLantern77 - 1/10/2012, 7:30 AM
I'd Charles her in the Xavier
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 7:31 AM
While Magneto was the best part of First Class, I am tired of him being the villain all the time. There are so many worthy villains in the X-Men universe. Let's get the X-Men fighting someone else for a change. I know Shaw was a villain in First Class (didn't care for him at all), but I still saw Magneto as the villain throughout the film the way he was portrayed. He just didn't get his big moment until the end.
spiderneil - 1/10/2012, 7:32 AM
X:FC by far the best xmen movie.
RorMachine - 1/10/2012, 7:32 AM
I don't really care who they use as long as the movie is good..but it would be nice to have couple more familiar faces, even though I dislike Iceman and Cyclops as characters. Jean would be great, and Archangel..in fact It would be cool if the movie dealt with Warren becoming Archangel but that is just wishful thinking. Don't give a damn about Sentinels, i'd rather a proper villain like Sinister or Apocalypse..again I'm sure that's wishful thinking. Some variation on the Mutant Massacre would be awesome.
RaleighAntrobus - 1/10/2012, 7:38 AM
How about they lay off X-Men movies for a few years until either:

a) They get them right (sorry, but First Class wasn't good enough).

b) The rights revert back to Marvel.
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 7:41 AM
^^^ I'm good with that too.
Fogs - 1/10/2012, 7:54 AM
big bewbs. and not fake.

And Magneto is cool. Imagine what he could do to the Sentinels.
Fogs - 1/10/2012, 7:55 AM
BTW right aren't reverting to marvel because FOX will keep milking it. So we can only hope they get it right from here on (FC was cool IMO).
loki668 - 1/10/2012, 8:00 AM
Maybe this time, they can bring in Cable and make him Cyclops' grandmother.

Lord Loki has spoken
redleaf - 1/10/2012, 8:06 AM
Get real. They're not going to give up the rights any time soon. I doubt Marvel could do a better job than First Class the way Disney Studios co-produces their movies now. You saw how Captain America washed over WW2 describing Nazis simply as bullies and shooting lazers at Hydra goons. That's not WW2.

First Class did a better job at framing its story in history with its social context. If they throw in a few more fan-favorite characters, that will be enough to keep the fanboys at bay.

Sinister would be awesome as a twisted geneticist.
RorMachine - 1/10/2012, 8:09 AM
I don't think Marvel would make a better X-Men movie..they might make a more faithful one, and I guess that would be good enough for some.
Newbus - 1/10/2012, 8:11 AM
Considering they screwed up the timeline and characters beyond repair I suspect we'll get more of the same. So that means no cyclops, jean, angel, sentinels etc. The other characters from the previous film haven't been resolved so I expect they will return...apart from Darwin LOL!
thewolfx - 1/10/2012, 8:26 AM
lets makes this clear to all the noobs in here

xmen first class was a good movie

but as an x-men film it was [frick]ing horrible

and no i dont want vaughn to return

i want someone who can actually fix all these continuety [frick] ups and have the actual firt class be in the movie
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 8:28 AM
"You saw how Captain America washed over WW2 describing Nazis simply as bullies and shooting lazers at Hydra goons. That's not WW2."

lol...Nazi's were bullies and there were no Hydra goons in the actual WWII, but there were in the comic books, so I am not sure what your challenge is. It's a comic book movie, it's not supposed to depict WWII in its entire authenticity. There was no Captain America with superpowers in WWII so perhaps they should have left him out of the movie as well?

I know Marvel won't be getting the X-Men film rights back anytime in the near future. I do think they would make a much more faithful film and a decent faithful film would be much better than a decent film but lousy CBM adaptation. My opinion.
Kamdan - 1/10/2012, 8:35 AM
Of course she's onboard if Vaughn is. That's the only way she gets work.
BSingerFoxMen - 1/10/2012, 8:51 AM
I think they need to just make a GOOD sequel, I don't care who's involved! The first one was some of the most ridiculous, boring crap I've ever seen in a comic book movie! Less talky, less preachy, more ass kicky please. And please get rid of that stupid [frick]ing costume magneto wore at the end...the helmet can stay tho!
qnolan - 1/10/2012, 8:51 AM
She is married to Jonathan Ross. Real boobs. Decent writer. Hope her n Matthew are both onboard
JDUKE25 - 1/10/2012, 9:01 AM
Bring on the sequel!! But they had better start bringing in the familiar faces in this one.
RorMachine - 1/10/2012, 9:01 AM
Ranger, agreed completely, but I'll always take a very good unfaithful CBM over a merely decent faithful one..and imo that was First Class. But that being said I really didn't consider First Class to be that unfaithful anyway. It took some big liberties sure, but character wise they were solid interpretations, and in the two main characters prob the BEST interpretations yet.
Fogs - 1/10/2012, 9:07 AM
@redleaf - sorry but I disagree about TFA. As Ranger said Hydra was the focus there.

And Disney isn't "co-producing their movies now". They're not producers in any form. They're distributors and have a share on merchandising and grossing. Enough with Disney conspiratorial theories.
RorMachine - 1/10/2012, 9:16 AM
I agree with Redleaf on TFA. To avoid paraphrasing myself, here is what I wrote about that element of the movie in my review;)

In the first act we are introduced to the skinny, frail Steve Rogers. A man who is not bloodthirsty in any way, but recognizes the threat posed to the entire world by Hitler and the Nazis, and is determined that he will do his part to end their tyranny. So he is given that chance and becomes the ultra buff fighting machine known as Captain America. Then goes to fight a bunch of left overs from Gi Joe: Rise Of Cobra instead of Nazis. Where is this threat? The movie makes no effort to convey the situation at all. I'm not saying we needed to have shots of people being herded into the gas chamber (although at least a mention of the Holocaust would have been nice..well, not nice but...err, ah you get me) but something needed to be shown beyond a shot of a bomb with "New York" written on it imo. Sure there are action scenes, plenty of em (although there are a few cheats via montage) and they are for the most part well choreographed and exciting. But we know nothing is going to happen to Cap. And the rest of his Howling Commandos may as well have been left out of the movie for all they bring to it. Only Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is established as something approaching an important character and is then "killed off" in an almost nonchalant way leaving us with no choice but to not really give a damn. There are also a few dodgy choices made in the edit. One example would be Cap swinging on a chain and never coming off it. We simply cut to him running. That might sound a bit nit picky but for me it's ignoring one of the most basic rules of film making.

Now bear in mind I did give the movie a good rating overall, that was just the major thing that bothered me about it.
l0rdleg0las - 1/10/2012, 9:18 AM
i would much rather see her tits than another [frick]ing X-Men movie, where they inevitably in some way [frick] up the story...again

BTW i would much rather see her tits than a lot of things.
Fogs - 1/10/2012, 9:26 AM
@Ror - "The movie makes no effort to convey the situation [fighting hydra and not traditional nazis] at all"

Actually I remember that Chester's division was specifically dedicated to dismember Hydra. They said it a couple of times, and Steve even says that "If they're getting Schmidt I want to go".

Of course I'd like to see more cap against regular nazi scum but I wasn't bothered with it at any moment. At all.
gambgel - 1/10/2012, 9:34 AM
why the hell dont they hire Matthew already????

I dont get it, they loved his work, the audience loved his work... what more do they need?
sarahsatire - 1/10/2012, 10:03 AM
Her hair boggles my mind. A wig? Extensions? Or did she actually manage to dye that much hair such a vibrant shade of red-pink?

The world may never know...
spiderneil - 1/10/2012, 10:48 AM
continuity is good but first and for most I want a great movie.

all the best CBM movies have taken liberites with the timeline/characters/continuity
Aaesir - 1/10/2012, 10:50 AM
Matt Vaughn needs to go back to making British Gangster films like he used to. I was 60/40 about his interpretation of the X-Men. Too many changes in character backgrounds and nature. I don't like it when Hollywood makes changes when they aren't warranted or necessary.
marvel72 - 1/10/2012, 10:57 AM
cyclops & marvel at least or don't f*ckin bother.
Shaman - 1/10/2012, 11:13 AM
Holy [frick], Lex Luthor AGAIN?!?!?!?!?!?!

Seriously though, as awesome as Fassbender was as Magneto, he was actually too awesome for the rest of the film IMHO. I think people enjoyed him so much they forgot about how ridiculous the rest of the movie was, like:

-Shaw attacking a C.I.A. headquarter and then just... leave.

-How insignificant Shaw's lackies and the team of highly expendable gathered mutants were, which consequently made the whole "gathering montage" and end fight scenes... well... insignificant. As flashy as all that was, it served no purpose what so ever to the plot.

-How stupid it was to kill their only interesting mutant in a way that really shouldn't have killed him. But maybe Goldman thought it was okay because he was their token black guy.

-How badly they developed Angel as being someone that was not reticent in the least of becoming a part of X-men, yet flipping on her new found team like a coin at the slight touch. Maybe that was okay by Goldman too because she was a stripper and they are the devil incarnate.

-How they completely took all that time away from important characters and situations like Beast's and Mystiques' shallow roles which just showed him being smart and her having merely "thoughts" about who she was which pretty much took all the needed drama away from their scenes and just replaced it with angst, Charles and Erik's introduction to each other being hammered into the story on a whim as if they were just magically at the same place at the right time, Moira searching for a specialist for about 5 minutes before she meets Charles, etc.

The one thing that sold the movie was Magneto and as much as i was against him getting a solo movie at first, after watching First Class i wish he did have it instead. All the character introductions and development took a back seat to the action, i felt i was watching Inception with Mutants. And no, that's not a good thing in my book.
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 11:56 AM

We do have a difference in opinion as to First Class. I only saw it as decent. Different strokes.

They took way too many liberties for my taste to be a faithful X-Men film, especially being it was promoted as a sequel and the continuity was really messed up. I didn't care for Shaw at all. Didn't even remind me of the Shaw from the comics. Bacon did a decent acting job, but a scrawny Shaw...no muttonchops..just didn't settle well with me. I didn't care for Xavier's interpretation as they took some huge liberties with his character and I didn't care for McAvoy as Xavier at all. Hard for me to even put him near the same quality of character interpretation as Stewart. Magneto was good enough. The rest were just kind of there and fillers for me. I really didn't get that attached to any of the characters. Emma Frost was very poorly done. All my opinion, of course. To each their own.
Ranger14 - 1/10/2012, 11:57 AM
I meant prequel...
PoPcornDude - 1/10/2012, 12:25 PM
