While there has been buzz for the sequel to the X-Men prequel, X-Men: First Class, for some time now, with director Matthew Vaughn returning to helm and a start-date set, Twentieth Century Fox has just announced an official summer 2014 release date. Also setting dates for the Rise of the Planet of The Apes sequel titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Check out press release excerpts.

Los Angeles (May 31, 2012) __ Twentieth Century Fox announced today some major additions to its 2013-14 release slate, along with some date changes.

Then on Memorial Day (May 23, 2014), Fox unleashes DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES worldwide, the sequel to the $483 million grossing RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Rupert Wyatt, who helmed the 2011 smash, returns to direct. The returning producers are Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

And on July 18, 2014, Fox releases worldwide the third of its summer tentpoles, the currently untitled X-MEN, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn.

Release dates set for other anticipated movies include Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (August 16, 2013), Robopocalyspe (April 25, 2014), the re-release of Independence Day in 3D (July 3, 2013).

LucasMend - 5/31/2012, 12:35 PM
Not to forget DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES!
TheMyth - 5/31/2012, 12:38 PM
Sweet, cept I gotta wait 2 [frick]in' years...
BruceLeroy - 5/31/2012, 12:40 PM
Reboot please. First Class was good but unnecessary when you look at it in the grand scheme of things. The X-Men franchise will become even more convoluted when they start drawing more random mutants out of a hat like they did for the first film.
superotherside - 5/31/2012, 12:44 PM
Yeah... we get to see Awful Foxmen again... :P Sorry couldn't help that... oh well.

Not being a hater. I hope it's good. :)
Gamester76 - 5/31/2012, 12:51 PM
Am I the only one who noticed the Independence Day 3D release for July 3rd next year? When did this happen?

Also, super stoked for X-Men: First Class 2.
PaulRom - 5/31/2012, 1:05 PM
Awesome news. Looking forward to both X-Men and Apes.
Curmudgeon - 5/31/2012, 1:06 PM
This makes 2014 the first year to have more than 3 Marvel-branded films. (Along with Cap 2, TASM 2, and the unrevealed flick that is almost certainly Ant-Man)
timotey - 5/31/2012, 1:08 PM
@BruceLeroy: Jane Goldman already confirmed that XMFC is a reboot, not really a prequel, and that it exists in a universe of its own. Why not enjoy it for what it is, a character driven duology/possibly trilogy with Charles and Erik as the main mutants?

People enjoy Nolan's Batman that has nothing to do with Burton's Batman and they're looking forward to the new Spiderman that has nothing to do with the previous trilogy. Why do comic book nerds make a big deal only out of XMFC?

There are many AUs in the comic books, why not in the movies? As long as its well written and well acted - which XMFC was, McAvoy and Fassbender's chemistry was off the charts - what's the big deal? It's not that hard to keep the movies apart...
Curmudgeon - 5/31/2012, 1:12 PM
Although I just realized, even with this huge dump of new FOX release dates in 2013-14... still no info on Deadpool, or Daredevil.

Curious.
Greengo - 5/31/2012, 1:18 PM
It'll tough to match the epic epicness of ROTPOTA

First Class was good though but Fassbender must must must be in it.
White - 5/31/2012, 1:21 PM
Can't wait Apes and X-men.
driver - 5/31/2012, 1:23 PM
BTW/Just watched PROMETHEUS.It's good movie but with a lot of flops. There are no answers, only questions.
PantherX - 5/31/2012, 1:24 PM
So, Captain America, Spider-man, X-men and one other Marvel Studios film all in one year. Now that is starting to shape up nicely!
Ha1frican - 5/31/2012, 1:24 PM
Im excited for POTA but First Class was a continuity nightmare and rape of all the characters except Magneto (whose scenes were awesome i must admit)
RaleighAntrobus - 5/31/2012, 1:26 PM
Yay, more shitty X-Men movies from FOX...
Bullets - 5/31/2012, 1:30 PM
I don't know why but I have no faith in either of these sequels. Though I have been thinking lately that it might be cool if, after the Daniel Craig series, they did a period piece James Bond movie like First Class.
OneAboveAll - 5/31/2012, 1:30 PM
@timotey-
I couldn't agree more..I love both the comics and the movies. And yes perhaps xmfc wasn't in perfect canon. It wasn't supposed to be. How many different Marvel Universes have there been that were completely different from the main continuity? Many of them were quite good. Xmfc was excellent! Fassbender and Mcavoy were absolutely incredible, and jenn lawrence and kevin bacon absolutely destroyed it. So just enjoy the movie as a good movie.
SpiderFan35 - 5/31/2012, 1:31 PM
Still have yet to see the first Apes but I'm sure a sequel will be good too.

X-men? Well we can only hope they took some notes from the reactions to First Class and fix some stuff up...not getting my hopes up though.
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 1:32 PM
First Class was meh

and i am expecting nothing for its sequel
SeaSerpentine - 5/31/2012, 1:34 PM
I hope these make an appearence in new X-Men movie. Even if they don't, it will (hopefully) be as good as the last one.

Can't wait to see what they do with "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". I reposted because the picture didn't appear.
ralfinader - 5/31/2012, 1:35 PM
I confirm what HelaGood said.
SpiderFan35 - 5/31/2012, 1:35 PM
@tea: And then we could have Tom Arnold in 3D too!

captainireland - 5/31/2012, 1:35 PM
Shouldn't the dawn of the ape civilisation precede its rise and not vice versa?!
TheSoulEater - 5/31/2012, 1:35 PM
YES!!
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 1:36 PM
there will be 4 years between Percy Jackson movies... you think anyone will notice that he is considerably older now?
SpiderFan35 - 5/31/2012, 1:36 PM
@Yoss: Eewwww...

neonhero - 5/31/2012, 1:36 PM
Sweet news! Loved First Class. Even as I was watching I was wondering what they could name a sequel that wouldn't sound ridiculous, though. Clearly not X-Men: First Class 2, or X-Men: Second Class. Maybe X-Men: Even Classier? (<---trademarked, b-words)
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 1:37 PM
@SeaSerpentine - i would LOVE to see Sentinels!!!!
marvel72 - 5/31/2012, 1:37 PM
dawn of the planet of the apes = bring it on.

x-men first class 2 = not intrested at all, they never use the characters i want to see.
Xandera - 5/31/2012, 1:47 PM
Bring on the sequel, YOU DAMN DIRTY APE!!!!!!
SpiderFan35 - 5/31/2012, 1:48 PM
@Pux: I must have missed that meeting, or I would have said...

marvel72 - 5/31/2012, 1:51 PM
best cbm of 2012

1st rise of the planet of the apes
2nd captain america
3rd thor
4th x-men first class
5th cowboys & aliens
6th green hornet
7th green lantern
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 1:52 PM
@IM53 - there were too many in First Class and he wants to add another? just another jumbled mess then...
captainireland - 5/31/2012, 1:53 PM
@PatientZero: Haha, Semantics is a mofo!

@TheBostonBatman: DAWN DIRTY APES!!!
soberchimera - 5/31/2012, 1:58 PM
So far the CBMs of 2014 are:
Captain America 2
X-Men: Second Class

Can't wait to see what's next.
batmanmovie2012 - 5/31/2012, 1:59 PM
So excited. Sequels to my 2 favorite films from last year.
DanteSparda - 5/31/2012, 2:00 PM
Can't wait for X-Men: First Class sequel, being honest I liked it more than Thor and Captain America, so I can't wait for it, in fact I was expecting this movie at the end of 2013, I'm also exited for Dawn of the planet of the apes.

BTW here is my favorite movies of the 2011:

1- X-Men: First Class
2- Captain America
3- Thor
4- Rise of the planet of the apes
27- Green Lantern
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 2:01 PM
@IM53 - soooo right! simplify and balance the shit...and GET IT RIGHT@!!! plus, im not craZy about how big a role mystique had... she needs to go. if they are trying to maintain some sort of continuity with all the other films then keep prof x, beast, cyclops, add storm and jean and get rid of everything else. and have the sentinels be the big bad.
ralfinader - 5/31/2012, 2:02 PM
Critics and the general audience alike reached a consensus that any other commenter in a CBM thread was better than Pux, so haters..

..can go Pux it! :P
BruceLeroy - 5/31/2012, 2:02 PM
Pux is mad that not everybody wants to see Fox's glorified fan fiction get a sequel.

Going down Fox's route, we will never see the Sentinels and many other aspects that people love about the X-Men in the movies. Instead, we'll get more butchered characters and more pseudo intellectual bullshit.
HelaGood - 5/31/2012, 2:05 PM
@BruceLeroy true
GreyChaos13Zero - 5/31/2012, 2:05 PM
nice!! can't wait for both films?)

gambgel - 5/31/2012, 2:07 PM
ohhhh, I was hoping a May release for X-men

:(

and Memorial weekend could have been sooo big for the sequel.

But its pretty clear since Planet of the apes prequel was bigger than First Class, Fox wanted to give the sequel the best release week

anyway, hoping the x-men sequel to be an amazing movie, Matthew will do an even better job on the sequel, Im sure about it
uman347 - 5/31/2012, 2:17 PM
I am so pumped for the sequel for X-men First class sequel, and idk what people say I think First Class is almost as good as X2 and better than the first X-men, adn yes there are continutiy problems but I prefer there to be issues with cannon then have another bad movie, and I see First Class kind of like a retcon/rebootish/prequel, like I feel like this sires will lead up to an alternate version of the x-men movies
SUPERBATSPIDERMAN - 5/31/2012, 2:22 PM
This is awesome news from the sequels of my two favroite movies from last year. I was weary of First Class but when I saw the Argentina Bar scene the movie won me over that scene alone makes the film. Planet of The Apes was a huge surprise for me and it is one of my favorite films now. When Caesar yells "No" that gave me goosebumps.
Ryguy88 - 5/31/2012, 2:23 PM
I guess they are slotting in X-men for 2014 because Wolverine will be ready for 2013. Great news though, First Class and Planet of the Apes were great action flicks! Can't wait to see where First Class is going with this particular story.
SpiderFan35 - 5/31/2012, 2:24 PM
@Pux: I was not making an argument, I was just saying that if I had been at the fictional "meeting" where this consensus was reached, I would have disagreed in a hilarious slo-mo gif fashion.

I admit I rely on Rotten Tomatoes from time to time, but I don't always agree with critics.

And IMDB is a viper's nest of lies and conjecture. :D
Ryguy88 - 5/31/2012, 2:25 PM
IM53, where the hell did you see that Havok was Cyclops' father? You're just making shit up now.
