The Sydney Morning Herald was covering Julia Gillard's visit to the set of The Wolverine. Star Hugh Jackman was asked about the tragic events that took place at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado.
"All I can echo is just the sorrow I feel for the families, for the community, for everybody," he said from the set of The Wolverine. "It's an issue that goes obviously way beyond acting, beyond film, beyond anything like that. This is just a tragedy on a level that we have experienced in Australia many years ago, in Tasmania, and it's just devastating."

On a lighter note, The Wolverine will start filming in a week. Ms. Gillard used the event to promote the burgeoning film industry in Australia. To secure the film the federal government committed $12.8 million. In return The Wolverine will create more than 2,000 jobs and generate more than $80 million to the local economy.

Hugh Jackman also reiterated his love of the Wolverine character. A role that fell into his lap once first choice Dougray Scott departed from Bryan Singer's X-Men.
"I still love the character. I had no choice at the time - I was going to take anything that came along - but I happen to have walked into probably the most interesting and complex of the superhero characters."

Director James Mangold (Kate & Leopold) was also on hand for the festivities. He was very enthusiastic about recreating the look of Japan on an Australian soundstage.
"It speaks to the incredible craftsmanship [here] that we can make so much of Japan - feudal Japan, urban Japan, sets - all here on our soundstages in Australia."

While The Leader is reporting that a World War II prisoner of war camp is being created in Kurnell at the Bonna Point Reserve. I'm not really sure how that comes into play in the movie as I don't remember that in Frank Miller's Japanese saga that which the film is based on.
One of the sets for Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine flick is already under construction at Kurnell.

Neighbouring residents were notified by the production company, 20th Century Fox, that Bonna Point Reserve would be temporarily occupied to make way for a World War II prisoner of war camp set (pictured under construction). Scenes for the film will be shot in two days between Monday, July 30 and Thursday, August 2.

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), from a script written by Christopher McQuarrie.. The cast includes: Hugh Jackamn (Logan/Wolverine), Svetlana Khodchenkova (Viper), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shingen), Hal Yamanouchi (Yashida), Tao Okamoto (Mariko), Rila [frick]ushima (Yukio), Brian Tee (Norubo Mori), and Will Yun Lee (Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai). The film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

Hugh Jackman really does seemlike a nice guy. I am excited for the new Wolverine because it is directed by the guy who did 3:10 to Yuma which is one of my favorite Westerns.

Also why the hell is the killer of those people in Colorado still alive. He should suffer an agonizing death and be in the ground by now. Jeez there are times where I hate the justice system.

Mangold does one thing right with his movies, they do what they're supposed to do.

If he does a chick flick, girls will smolder around it like flies on a rotting carcass.

If it's a western, it's as good as any I've seen in a long time.

He just does his job well.
ATrueHero1987 - 7/23/2012, 9:13 PM
Let's hope they don't put 15 different irrelevant mutants in this. I hope they don't Psylocke in this. She's one of my favorite X-Men.
angus666 - 7/23/2012, 9:19 PM
I've never been a fan of X-Men, but I love Wolverine by himself. I hope they make this good.

yep yep great guy................wear a proper Wolverine costume this time!!!!!!!!
please. I'll see it 3 times, promise.

(ok I doubt anybody remotely connected to the movie reads this; but what the hell)
Super12 - 7/23/2012, 9:27 PM
Wouldn't the prison camp they're talking about be in Japan? I don't think Cap ever went into the Pacific Theater, did he? No cameo expected, not to mention the rights issues. I bet it's a camp for Chinese/Manchurian prisoners during the war.

there will not be a cap cameo because this is FOX and they are teerible and not give us what we so desire. They will rape this like they did the other one. don't get me wrong i a still have hopes, they are just not high ones.
TexasTwoFace - 7/23/2012, 9:40 PM

MovieTheaterLad - 7/23/2012, 10:07 PM
@Intruder

The original first class almost got the book canceled.

People really didn't start to give a shit about X-Men until THIS happened.

blkyank - 7/23/2012, 10:08 PM
@Tony93

As a police officer and a father, I assure you that the cops who arrived at scene
in Colorado would have given their right nuts to put 100 rounds into that kid.

Aurora is a midsize city and even the chief of police had a kid seeing the midnight show in another theater in town. Many of those other officers likely had kids seeing that movie as well. Upon hearing that kids had been shot, many would have thought to themselves "That could have been my kid." The color of the suspect in this case would mean absolutely nothing, especially a kid with dyed red hair and body armor.

Way I see it,the only thing that saved that bastard was,

1. He immediately surrendered to police upon their arrival.

2.He surrendered in the parking lot in full view of the whole world.

Those cops were smart enough to know that if they served up some "street justice"
on an unarmed man in front of hundreds of fleeing patrons,(many no doubt, carrying cellphones)they would be getting blasted in the press for taking away the chance to question this kid about his motivations without cause (That being an immediate threat to their lives or the lives of others)

If that kid had pulled out a cellphone, wallet or lollypop, he would have been smoked
six ways to sunday for pulling out what "appeared to be" a deadly weapon,I assure you.

I want to see how FOX handles the FF or DD reboot. Then we can truly see if FOX learned their lesson....
CeltiC527 - 7/23/2012, 10:22 PM
How can it take place during WW2 when the events of origins happened during the Vietnam war?

@tony that was the dumbest comment I've ever seen. Take your racism and leave

just sayin....

But I still feel X-Men set the precedence for comic book movies ever since it came out. It proceeded Spider-Man and set the stage for comic book movies that aren't Superman movies or.... this:

nailbiter111 - 7/23/2012, 11:10 PM
mangold hasn't made a shitty movie yet, but he hasn't made a great movie either. he's been close, so he has a shot with this one. good luck.

It better be some kickass fighting scenes with claws slashing, and can we see some blood for once because the reality factor is dropping with each movie (claws make blood), even if its just one scene, and also a more complex plot.

The first Wolverine suffered from not enough plot and story, and what 'was' left was just some cliche shit
DrJoeGonzo - 7/23/2012, 11:18 PM
when wolverenie was in japan it was his most important story arc. it is when he has his son and then it gets taken after his mother is killed. but i doubt that will happen cause god forbid fox sticks to the source material.
DrJoeGonzo - 7/23/2012, 11:22 PM
great trailer, much better then black swan
nailbiter111 - 7/23/2012, 11:23 PM
it's a shame Darren Aronofsky has a fear of leaving america. his Wolverine would've been very interesting.
MadTitan - 7/24/2012, 12:01 AM
not looking forward to this sequel. meh!
fistofthenorthstar - 7/24/2012, 12:04 AM
i must admit that i would love to see the brown and black outfit or any masked wolverine would be appreciated!
MasterApoc81 - 7/24/2012, 12:13 AM
well i like hugh jackmans wolverine.......but i didnt like how far out fox went with xmen movies ......first class was the first more to comic book version i have seen......i like how they rebooted it and kept jackman in by giving him a cameo .....if they follow it more to storyline ...everyone minus prof x and beast will get kidnapped and prof x will have to find and form a new team to save the other mutants .....this team consists of beast cyclops jean iceman angel and is the first appearance of the first xmen team .......they are also the ones that battle magneto when he was more evil and judging by the ending of first class its heading in the direction which im glad ............i dont care if fox does it ...as long as they allow marvel creative rights ...to maintain the standard in which first class just set for xmen movies ....
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/24/2012, 1:10 AM
I respect Wolverine, Hugh Jackman.
blkyank - 7/24/2012, 1:16 AM
This whole situation breaks my heart.I deal with life and death crap every day I go to work and one of the things I look forward to to put my mind at ease is to nurture my love of fantasy,SCI-FI,and especially comics and CBM's because they are a refuge
of decency and idealism in a cynical world.

I don't expect anybody to feel sorry for me because I chose this life and Im well paid to do it,but it sucks that a senseless act of violence has soiled what has up to now
been a source of diversion, joy, camaraderie and family bonding

That includes this website, where I have enjoyed(and some times gotten miffed at) the back and forth between all you wonderful guys and gals.

Going to the latest CBM and events like Comic-Con with my sons is a treasured event in my household and it touches my heart to share my knowledge of comic book history with my boys. The other night my 13 year old son got up in the middle of the night while I was on the computer and we ended up having an hour long talk about various Young Justice characters and I got to fill him in on origins and comic book source material. It was a nice moment with my son.

To have the event of last friday forever attached to what should be a great moment(that being a summer with 3 CBM's likely making north of 300 million dollars BO) in genre history is a kick in the gut.

As someone who has actually watched people die,I don't mean to diminish the real life tragedy of so many young lives ended in what should be the safest of places.

I only wish to express my profound sadness that such an event as July 20th 2012 has such a spillover effect that we are going to be talking about the possibility of another attack during any future big genre movie premiere and that hurts.

I took my family to see TDKR last friday and a moment stuck with me that wasn't in the movie. When that haunting Man of Steel trailer played the thought hit me that
most likely some of those killed in Colorado watched it and thought about how cool it will be to see Superman return next summer.

As I watched Superman flying skyward, I could feel the emotion welling up inside
at the thought that someone was robbed of having that moment next year.

In June 2013 I will be there for those of our CBM family who wont get that chance.
