X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Costume Designs Getting A Helping Hand From Jock

An update on the costume designs we're likely to see in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Bryan Singer previously confirmed that the black, leather suits from his X-Men films won't be returning.

Last November, when Bryan Singer revealed that his costume designer from X-Men and X2 Louise Mingenbach would be returning to design costumes for X-Men: Days of Future Past, many fans jumped the gun and complained that the leather, black suits would be returning. However, Singer quickly clarified a few days later and simply stated that there would be no leather suits. The fear pendulum quickly swung to the opposite end and some took that to mean that there wouldn't be any costumes in the film. However, not too long ago product designer and comic book artist Jock revealed that he's working on the costume designs for the film. This tidbit went unreported as back in January, the artist also shared that he was working on the film alongside Lee Garbett.

You can check out Jock's work HERE.

How far do you want the costumes in X:DOFP to stray from those in First Class?

does this mean we finally get wolverine's iconic yellow costume
lapress - 3/5/2013, 6:18 PM
Their clothes will probably look like the military
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:18 PM

Please make this happen Mr. Mingenbach!!
PeterParker1991 - 3/5/2013, 6:19 PM
^^ doubtful, though based on FC, Blue and yellow seems to work.. so far
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/5/2013, 6:24 PM
@sephiroth211 Magneto looks badass in your first pic. That's how Mags should look in the movies.
LikeAPhoenix - 3/5/2013, 6:24 PM
Give the X-Men some colors, dang it!
JatevinM - 3/5/2013, 6:25 PM
I hope we dont ever see that yellow and blue costume for Wolverine on screen because it doesn't even fit him in the comics.
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:26 PM
@MARVELPSYCHO79: Notice how the top one looks like Fassbender, and the older one like McKellen.
JatevinM - 3/5/2013, 6:32 PM
sephiroth211@ Nothing about those look like either Fassbender or McKellan
xXkryptoniteXx - 3/5/2013, 6:34 PM
It's a live action movie and not a kids show. Grow up people, if they can make it work in live picture without making it look too cartoonish that's great, but if it doesn't don't cry about it. Just as long the movie and story is good I'll be fine. Avengers is great but the costume was not all to ridicules and especially the world that they build on. I still think captain america's suit sucked compared to his stand alone film.

Black widow is do able.
Hulk is good cause that's the skin and character.
Iron man is a armor so it's do able. Perfect btw.
Thor is a god and they adjusted will to make it fit in live action.
Loki was great and adjusted as well to make it not goofy.
Hawkeye they change to adapt in live action.

What I'm trying to say is, if you want it exactly like the comics, go screw off and grow up
If they do it as a way to adapt to fit in live action why not? Just as long as it looks good and not too campy to watch cause I am a grown man and I wanna get lost in a good movie with great story and NOT in a live action cartoon flick.
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:35 PM
Ever hear the saying all in the eye of the beholder? I see something that you don't. No crime in that.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/5/2013, 6:37 PM
@sephiroth I wished that Fassbender would bulk up to play Magneto.Magnus has always been buff in the comics.Hopefully they give Mags that exact costume in DOFP.
JatevinM - 3/5/2013, 6:40 PM
Gusto@ they look perfectly fine the way they are
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:43 PM
Again, @JatevinM that is your personal opinion...just as we feel they should look like that. It's that eye of the beholder thing again.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/5/2013, 6:44 PM
The X-Men characters costumes can work on screen from the comics. They just need to change a few things and alter them.
JatevinM - 3/5/2013, 6:45 PM
sephiroth211@ I'm just wondering what elderly male actor of quality do you think you are going to get that is that buff?
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:47 PM
Not the buffness, the general look.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/5/2013, 6:51 PM
The thing about Magneto is he never really looked old in the comics.Erik always looked young and in great shape.I say get a actor in his late 30s or early 40s,make him bulk up and put makeup on him to look a little older.
wolverinesfury - 3/5/2013, 6:51 PM
I'm not familiar with Jock. Is he a good artist?
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/5/2013, 6:57 PM
@MAGNETOX The costumes can work.Change the colors and do alterations.Wolverine's comic costume can work.
sephiroth211 - 3/5/2013, 6:59 PM
That cloth suit on a fit guy like Fassbender is silly. I can understand McKellen wearing it, but Fassbender can pull the battle suit off.
MarkJulian - 3/5/2013, 7:03 PM
Sorry about the comments that got deleted. Someone posted some corrupt code in one of the images.
gambgel - 3/5/2013, 7:09 PM
would be really cool to see a new version of the First Class suit, and of course colour on the suits from the future timeline. Its really easy to update and make the comic costumes work on the big screen. They can use similar materials of the FC suit, or Captain America 1, or even the same material as the Oblivion costume of Tom Cruise, that look like leather, but its grey, so as long as Singer and crew give each x-man/woman his iconic colour, just a little less intense, it will be perfect!

it wouldnt look bad. Some fans just dont have a clear vission of the materials and the right tones.
Pooh - 3/5/2013, 7:10 PM
I like this one:

TheRedSkull - 3/5/2013, 7:24 PM
There was nothing wrong with the First Class outfits. I believed them way more than I ever did those god awful Black, Leather ones.

Just expand on that? As for Magneto...I think it's safe to say that First Class has already given us our glimpse of him with parts of his Comic Book outfit...at least with the helmet anyway
Paulina007 - 3/5/2013, 7:32 PM
Charlize Theron as Emma Frost !!!!!

Famke Janssen as White Phoenix of the Crown !!!!!

Bring them pleaseeeeee.......!!!!!
ahhmynuts - 3/5/2013, 7:34 PM
@pooh
that looks stupid
gambgel - 3/5/2013, 7:46 PM
yeah, in fact the FC outfit is a modern version of that "original costume". The main difference is that the comic costume has more yellow parts.

I think the movie crew could add more yellow here and there, while still looking cool.
subzero1077 - 3/5/2013, 7:51 PM
Jim Lee costumes or GTFO.
novaprime - 3/5/2013, 8:09 PM
PLEASE GIVE US SOME GREAT SUITES
80sFace - 3/5/2013, 8:11 PM
they can have a mutant whose powers are that they're able to make colorful costumes out of, like, lawn clippings or trash or something. boom. they can do all the costumes. problem solved.
raccoonwithrockets - 3/5/2013, 8:28 PM
Give wolverine some tights!!!
XavierLehnsherr - 3/5/2013, 10:40 PM
I hope they re-cast White Queen.
TheHeat - 3/5/2013, 10:55 PM
@Paulina007

I'd rather have Charlize Theron portray Ms. Marvel
pepe - 3/6/2013, 12:21 AM
Singer dont know anything about CBMs so get him off da project... like, now!
LordOfTheZegaRealm - 3/6/2013, 1:25 AM
Yes I always wanted to burn those costumes! There were not creative.
MrChuff - 3/6/2013, 1:45 AM
This film cant get here quick enough in my opinion...along with the death of Berry's Storm within the first 10mins please.
KingMarvel - 3/6/2013, 2:45 AM
This bullshit about suits for Xmen neet to stop. Fox and Mr singer neet to get the comic suit done right look the lame excuse they had in the beginning about yello spandex dont apply anymore!! if we can have a star spangeld banner captain america walking around than shurly we can have a black and yellow wolverine walking around they neet to cut the crap and just let the comicbook movie to BE what it is a comicbook movie!!
InfiniteMonkey - 3/6/2013, 3:06 AM
FoxMen and Singer is a bloody joke.
jimoakley666 - 3/6/2013, 3:44 AM
Jock is the [frick]ing MAN! He's the one that redesigned the uniforms for DREDD.
KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:46 AM
The Wolverine from the COMICS would never wear any of the suits he wears in the comics. The only reason he wears them is because it's a comicbook trope. And NO OTHER REASON.

If anybody ever questioned it, he'd say "you know what, you're right - it does look stupid and entirely inappropriate for a guy like me to be wearing. I'll never wear it again."

KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:47 AM
And as for the mask...

/walks away laughing
KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:52 AM
It's not about "can they make it work in live-action?" (although in Wolvie's case - they can't. Period), but about the characters motivations - why would they wear a suit? Would they wear a suit at all? If the only reason you can think of is "because they wear one in the comics" or "because that's what superheroes wear" you failed. They're not reasons, they're tropes.
RPD - 3/6/2013, 5:55 AM
@KingMarvel Amen, brother. That Matrix crap is over...
KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:59 AM
If anyone says the brown and orange suit is for "hunting" or camouflage, they can stand in the corner with the "I speak before thinking" hat on. No it isn't. Otherwise you'd see real hunters wearing something vaguely similar. They don't. It isn't for hunting or camouflage. It wouldn't be fit for purpose. It's just the same trope in a different colour.
1ncredibleJ0C - 3/6/2013, 6:48 AM
HA! IncredibleJoc i love it he is a good artist but i just hope that the costumes from the comics tranfer to the big screen especially the ones from the old cartoon from when i was kid in the 90s awesome suace and bring back Cyclops Damn you!!!!
eddywilliams - 3/6/2013, 6:58 AM
It's so awesome Charlize Theron must be IN X-men Days of Future Past 2014.
Emma was the former White Queen of the Hellfire Club, but retreated to a technological base off the coast of India after a majority of the mutant population was wiped out. She sold her telepathic abilities in services of mutant leaders and was eventually approached by Magneto to save Wolverine Emma managed to restore Logan's mind and joined Magneto They continued to operate out of Emma's base with other members as the "X-Men", Emma meet with Cyclops and Jean Grey as White Phoenix of the Crown, Cyclops is falling in love with Emma, now They should defeat Apocalypse and Sentinels....

I really hope to comment here people who run with X-men Days of Future Past 2014 movie, can confirm Charlize Theron as Emma Frost
TopCat89 - 3/6/2013, 7:04 AM
@KeithM I think you're looking into this a little too much...your point on "character motivations - why would they wear a suit?"....it's a comic book movie! You could say 'why would they wear a suit?' to nearly every superhero/villain in the comic universe....last year we had a man dressed as an american flag on screen....yes he looked ridiculous, some disagree, but no one really cared because it's from the comic book....so if anything, actually pleased!

If a man in blue/red/white and a big green guy can pass off on screen and have a positive reaction from audiences....i'm 99.9% sure a team of superheroes in blue/yellow or any of their individual costumes will work just as well.

Plus it gave them their own identity along with their own individual power/ability...there's your motivation if you really need it!
eddywilliams - 3/6/2013, 7:08 AM
I also really hope Villains with

1. Apocalypse

2. Holocaust ( Apocalypse's Son )

3. Mister Sinister ( Apocalypse's Partnership )

KeithM - 3/6/2013, 7:46 AM
@TopCat: You're absolutely right - I would ask the same question of every other comic book character. And if there isn't a good reason why they'd wear 'a costume' then they shouldn't wear one. Iron Man's is armour - fair enough, Cap and Superman's are symbolic - also fair enough. Batman's is for theatrical effect. Some are actual uniforms (Dredd, even GL at a stretch) - All reasons beyond "I wear a costume because that's what superheroes do."

Wolverine has no reason to wear one. At all.
