SPIELBERG ALL THE WAY! As if he is not the obvious choice - has worked with Lucas, comfortable with epic films, a master of science fiction. Plus, Steven Spielberg + John Williams = awesome.

Alfonso Cuaron is an excellent director - wouldn't object to that. He made the best Harry Potter film in the series.

Matthew Vaughn has too many problems with commitment to direct a big trilogy. Couldn't even stick around for Days of Future Past!

Aronofsky is just rumoured to direct bloody everything. He's not that type of filmmaker.

Whedon is everyone's favourite guy because of the Avengers, but what is the actual likelihood of him being given star wars when he's got such huge responsibilities with the Marvel universe.

j1216 - 11/2/2012, 4:57 PM
joss whedon did firefly that says it all!
RobinNumbah6 - 11/2/2012, 5:04 PM
I figured everybody would pick spielberg, so i picked a second place: alfonso cuaron. Love Children of Men, and directed my favorite of the Harry Potter movies; Prisoner of Azkaban.
AlexRival - 11/2/2012, 5:05 PM
Blomkamp could make some gritty, badass Star Wars films. I'm all for him.
CoolantTech - 11/2/2012, 5:05 PM
between Spielberg and Whedon
gaikinger - 11/2/2012, 5:13 PM
Whedon to make it right and Aronofsky to make it nuts.
Durranto - 11/2/2012, 5:18 PM
Steven Spielberg will not direct this. He has recently said that hes done with action films. On the plus side, no more raping of Indie...
Durranto - 11/2/2012, 5:20 PM
Heres the article
toco89 - 11/2/2012, 5:20 PM
Gaikinger you got it backwards. Avengers doesnt give credibility for this, he almost [frick]ed it up.(BACK AWAY FAN BOYS I CARE NOT FOR YOUR OVERHYPED MINDS AND THEIR BIASED OPINIONS!!!!)

Aronofsky is a pure director, Whedon still needs to study the art far more closely.
KilledHal9000 - 11/2/2012, 5:23 PM
J.J. Abrams
EyeGore - 11/2/2012, 5:27 PM
Whedon is great at what he does, but he's all wrong for STAR WARS. Tonally, Whedon is snark. Star Wars isn't snark.
Nick56 - 11/2/2012, 5:35 PM
Whedon should stick to tv
Barry - 11/2/2012, 6:02 PM
"Tonally, Whedon is snark. Star Wars isn't snark." - EyeGore

If you've seen enough of Whedon's work, you'd see that he isn't just snark. He can do earnest and serious as well as he can do funny. Besides, the original Star Wars trilogy has plenty of snark.
ricko8687 - 11/2/2012, 6:03 PM
Why not three different visions while maintaining a cohesiveness Spielberg,on the first Cuaron, on the second, and Peter Jackson on the third. Now that would be one hell of a trilogy.
DrRockso - 11/2/2012, 6:17 PM
Spielberg should have done Jedi, so now he gets his Star Wars. But just the first one.
geoffdog77 - 11/2/2012, 6:25 PM
i feel like Alfonso Cuaron would be able to bring back the "cosmic fairy-tale" spirit of the originals.
titansupes - 11/2/2012, 6:29 PM
Spielberg for the first, Cuaron for the second.

Or, alternately, Bird for the first, Cuaron for the second and Spielberg for the third.
tantyangulo - 11/2/2012, 6:41 PM
I would actually like to see what Blomkamp brings to the table.... Whedon is not the man for this, and I'm a big Whedon fan... hope they consider Andrew Stanton, if he's not in disgrace after John Carter's poor performance...
pieralnett - 11/2/2012, 6:45 PM
I'd say Whedon but I hear he's already directing a movie at that time so I pick Spielberg for at least one of the three movies.
GnomeSauce - 11/2/2012, 6:59 PM
Spielberg 1st, then Whedon for 2nd, pick another for 3rd film of the trilogy.
Barry - 11/2/2012, 7:09 PM
"I would actually like to see what Blomkamp brings to the table" - tantyangulo

Shaky cam? ;)
IIIAdamantiumIII - 11/2/2012, 7:29 PM
wtf guys honestly Steven Spielberg has become hit or miss with his films for every good one there is a bad one. WE NEED SOMEONE fresh who can give us the vibe of empire strikes back.
Durango95 - 11/2/2012, 7:40 PM
I agree with Toco
Whedon needs to stay the [frick] away from SW.He [frick]ed up Avengers really despite what everybody thinks. Id say Spielberg but Im not sure he could make a good movie anymore.Id feel better if Vaughn was involved or maybe Blomkamp.
Whedon blows as a director and needs to stick to bullshit like Firefly. Ive hated everything hes done.
Durango95 - 11/2/2012, 7:41 PM
Firefly is EXACTLY why Whedon should leave Star Wars alone in any capacity.
Mego - 11/2/2012, 8:01 PM
Spielberg is the perfect guy to get it off on the right start.
They need a director who will get the Star Wars quality back in order on #7.
Spielberg is the guy who talked Lucas into adding Indy's dad into Indy #3 and then talked Lucas into casting Connery while Lucas said WE would just see Connery as Bond.
Spielberg will make Lucas' script better and Star Wars will finally be back for real!
rsalas - 11/2/2012, 8:27 PM
Why isn't JJ Abrams on this list?
Mego - 11/2/2012, 9:09 PM
@rsalas Maybe no one wants Chris Pine and Gay Spock in cast in Star Wars.
GarthRanzz - 11/2/2012, 9:11 PM
Please not whedon.
carrowsboy - 11/2/2012, 10:15 PM
Uhm, Spielberg sucks. Either Aronofsky or Vaughan.
parkerray - 11/3/2012, 1:46 AM
Spielberg is 65 years old. Star Wars finally finally finally has the chance for some fresh blood and Spielberg is your first choice!? Why not Larry David or even Woody Allen?? Hey why not Judge Wapner? I bet he's still pretty sharp, as long as we're just throwing Star Wars to whoever.
Danbojohnj - 11/3/2012, 2:07 AM
Spielberg all the way.
EarOne - 11/3/2012, 5:02 AM
Spielberg: it might end up as Indiana Jones and the Dark Empire of the Galaxy. dunno..i prefer a pair of fresher eyes for this franchises' future. nothing against my man steven, though.

Alfonso Cuaron: i had high hopes for his Harry Potter installment..maybe too high. still, i think Cuaron would give a really interesting take on the space saga, if he could get his Little Princess mojo back (and i don't mean that in the sick way).

Matthew Vaughn: like his kickass and 1st Class, but..still unsure bout his consistency.

Aronofsky: we'll wait til Noah comes out..but, for now, i ain't too sure if he's the right fit for this.

Whedon: i want everybody to leave him alone to focus on his task at marvel studios. he's got enough on his plate, for now.

MY personal pick though would be: Martin Campbell...lol

Naaa...SERIOUSLY, my pick for the next SW trilogy would be PETER JACKSON. it'd be interesting to see the middle earth maestro's take on outer space epic like SW. i think the shoe fits.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 6:12 AM
1. Spleilberg.
2. Whedon
3. Vaughn.
Aronofsky is my favorite director and Blomkamp is excellent, but they wold be ill-suited for the first one. Maybe the middle one if they do another Empire kind of film.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 6:13 AM
Not sure who that Alfonso guy is. I'll imdb him.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 6:15 AM
Oh yeah, he's good, too. Good shortlist, all in all.
PaulRom - 11/3/2012, 7:44 AM
Joss Whedon would be the best choice, but he'd be too busy to direct Episode 7. In that case, I'd go with Matthew Vaughn or Alfonso Cuaron.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 10:41 AM
Vaughn's definitely got that feel good factor down pat. He's like Capra. But with more violence and cuss words.
loganx71 - 11/3/2012, 10:43 AM
i would have chosen joss whedon, but after seeing his pro obama vidoe here a few weeks ago i'll never support him again. what a bleeding heart liberal puppet lover, not that i support the other puppet either.
Alvahnomicron - 11/3/2012, 6:24 PM
keep politics out of it.
ComicBoyWonder - 11/3/2012, 7:32 PM
Whedon will be way to busy focusing on Avengers 2, so thats a 90% chance it's a no (only because SW7 most likely won't actually be coming out in 2015)
