Behind-the-scenes drama is nothing new for the Fast & Furious gang, especially after the reported beef between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson leading up to The Fate of the Furious. In fact, there have been reports that Dwayne Johnson won't even return for the ninth film. Another person who had negotiation disputes is Michelle Rodriguez, who is now confirmed to return to the franchise after a female screenwriter compromise.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Rodriguez confirmed Letty's return, in addition to justifying why the franchise demands a female voice for the ninth installment:

I felt like there was not enough of a female voice in the franchise. You should evolve with the times, not just pander to certain demographics that are stuck

The series had never had a female screenwriter before this, making the inclusion a huge win for Rodriguez and those supporting her. Though a female screenwriter has been agreed on, the name of the talent has not been disclosed yet.
