Deadline has confirmed that John Cena (
Bumblebee;
The Suicide Squad) has joined the ensemble cast of
Fast & Furious 9. Details on his role are being kept under wraps, but the studio has revealed that he'll be playing "
a badass." Shocking stuff.
He'll join an all- star cast that is expected to see Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Nathalie Emmanuel reprise their roles from the previous installments. DHD also reports that Dwayne Johnson (
Hobbs & Shaw) is not expected to return for
Fast 9, which probably shouldn't come as a surprise considering his fractured relationship with Diesel.
After a two-film absence, four-time
Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is returning to helm the sequel with a screenplay from Daniel Casey (
Kin).
Production is slated to begin later this month with a May 22, 2020 release date already set in stone.
