JAMES BOND 25: Edgar Wright Among Many In The Running To Replace Director Danny Boyle

JAMES BOND 25: Edgar Wright Among Many In The Running To Replace Director Danny Boyle

Following the decision to leave the director's chair, Danny Boyle has left the JAMES BOND franchise in chaos. After reports of starting all over, a shortlist of potential directors has been revealed.

When Danny Boyle boarded Bond 25, it was reported that he had a fresh take on the franchise. In fact, his pitch was so good that the studio threw out the initial direction of franchise veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Now with a new course set, the film was set to start production in the winter. This was until Boyle left the project altogether.

Boyle, who is one of the few unique voices in modern filmmaking, reportedly left the project over the casting of the antagonist. This has left the studio very anxious, with a page one rewrite becoming a big possibility. But don't worry Bond fans, another visionary filmmaker may board the project, this time in the form of Edgar Wright.

In addition to the Wright, who hit the mainstream scene like a truck with Baby Driver, Jean-Marc Vallee of Big Little Lies was named as a potential contender. Additionally, Hell or High Water's David Mackenzie and Yann Damange from the upcoming White Boy Rick are being eyed.

If he were to come through, It would be interesting to see whether Wright would be bringing his comedic sensibilities to the film, something he is primarily known for. A director like this would bring back some of the lightheartedness the franchise has been lacking for Craig's run. And if anyone has seen Logan Lucky, you know Craig can pull out the laughs. But if Wright were to go full on dramatic, that would be equally as interesting. In this age of stale blockbuster filmmaking, there is nothing like a director with range.
