Marvel’s Robert Downey Jr. Still Hoping To Do A Third SHERLOCK HOLMES Film

With 10 years of seeing him as Iron Man, it’s easy to forgot that RDJ used to be a very eclectic actor. Speaking to EW, he talks about his non-MCU projects moving forward; including another SHERLOCK HOLMES

Since Robert Downey Jr became the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it hasn't really afforded him the opportunity for a great many tent-pole ventures outside of that comic book universe. One that he did manage to do for a time, while also playing the armored Avenger, was Guy Ritchie's reinvention of Sherlock Holmes.

A stylized, more tactile but nevertheless ostensibly faithful interpretation, based on an unpublished graphic novel of all things, Downey played the part in two films: last seen in 2011's Sherlock Holmes:  Game of Shadows. That film saw him take the famed Reichenbach fall as Conan Doyle's consultant detective, but in the years since, despite hearing that a script was being worked on, very little else has been said on the subject.

One could easily have assumed that the project had died a quiet death. That's not the case however, as while promoting Avengers: Infinity War, the Academy Award Nominated actor touched upon a third film and other, non-Marvel projects he's attached to:

"First of all the missus is front and center with Joe Roth producing Doolittle, I'm having a good time. Though I decided to give myself, like 40 additional challenges. Like a Welsh accent - which even Welsh people say is hard to do. Then there's all the stuff down the pike, we're looking at another Sherlock Holmes, we're developing Perry Mason for HBO. I still want to do Pinocchio."

Though it seems to be a ways down the line, it's nevertheless good to hear that the Chaplin star plans to make a return to the sleuth, especially after his parting ways with Warner Bros back in late 2016. And with rumours that Tony Stark may well meet his end in this years Avengers: Infinity War, his schedule might be very free to do it.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to another Sherlock Holmes film? Would you like to see Ritchie return to helm the project? Leave your thoughts below.
