Seth MacFarlane and company return with “It’s a Trap,” their satirical take on George Lucas’s “Return of the Jedi.” The previous installments(“Blue Harvest” and “Something, Something, Something, Dark Side”) managed to poke-fun at these legendary films, while paying homage to them. While the opening scroll tells us to lower our expectations, there is no reason to do so. True fans of the “Star Wars” films will find great humor in this “Family Guy Special,” as well as “Family Guy” enthusiasts.
From the start, we are treated to a hilarious scene involving R2-D2(Cleveland) jumping Double-Dutch while reciting a clever rhyme. This special is exactly what we’ve come to expect from a “Family Guy Star Wars” Special. It mocks everything from the ridiculous additions to the Special Edition releases to the awkward moments between a father and son. We also are treated to the self jeering of a lack of “Family Guy” characters to portray all of the “Star Wars” characters, introducing characters from both “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show.”
Stewie is magical as Darth Vader, particularly at the end when Anakin Skywalker joins Obi-Wan and Yoda on Endor. Peter’s sarcasm, as always, brings hilarity to the role of Han Solo. Chris’s equal sense of irony, and witty banter with Stewie’s Darth Vader, easily make him the funniest character in this installment. But, I cannot leave out what I feel is the funniest part of “It’s a Trap”: Yoda’s final moments with Luke. This is hilarious, and takes, what was meant to be, a tear-jerking moment from “Return of the Jedi,” and reveals the true silliness of the scene.
People who dislike “Family Guy,” will find no pleasure in this. Some “Star Wars” enthusiasts will hate this film because it mocks everything that was silly, unneeded, or just plain stupid about the “Star Wars Saga.” George Lucas gave his approval of these specials, proving that even the creator of “Star Wars” has a sense of humor when it comes to the milestone of his career.
MacFarlane and his funny crew hit another Home Run with “It’s a Trap,“ and gifts us with a little something to brighten our moods. This is definitely worth a watch, because there is something for everyone to laugh at in this.
