James Wan Reveals Some Surprising New Details About AQUAMAN And Mera's Relationship
Aquaman director James Wan discusses the love-hate relationship between the King of Atlantis and Mera in the DC Films Universe and weighs in on the movie's influencing the upcoming release...
In a recent interview with Bustle, Aquaman director James Wan shed some light on what we should expect from the King of Atlantis' highly anticipated solo movie. Interestingly, he compares the upcoming 2018 release to both Raiders of the Lost Ark and Romancing the Stone, and added: "I really want to get the classic action-adventure-romance aspect through that, and I think that’s kind of fun."
Don't expect your typical movie romance though as it sounds like Aquaman and Mera will have something of a love-hate relationship, something we'll likely get our first taste of in Justice League next year. "It starts off initially with them not quite clicking with each other," Wan explains. "But then as the story progresses as they learn to try and work together, they get closer and closer. I think those stories are always such a great place for a filmmaker like myself to have fun with my actors."
"I think that dynamic will be really interesting between the two," the filmmaker continued when asked about Jason Momoa and Amber Heard's on screen chemistry. "Amber’s character is super strong, she’s very powerful as well. You don’t wanna mess with her. I think Amber will bring that sense of strength, but at the same time, we also want someone who has a sort of feminine quality to her as well. She’s a bit of a contrast to Momoa, who’s more of a muscular machine almost."
Are you guys looking forward to seeing Aquaman and Mera's relationship play out on the big screen?
