Thanos' Villainous Motivations In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Revealed - Mild SPOILERS Ahead
We already knew a little about what prompts Thanos to seek out the Infinity Stones and embark on his catastrophic crusade in Infinity War, but now Kevin Feige has shared some more eye-opening details...
In the comics, The Mad Titan vows to destroy all life in the universe to impress the personification of death, whom he has fallen in love with. However, it seems the villain's motivations will actually be a little less selfish (could they even be construed as noble?) for the purposes of this film.
Here's what Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige revealed to EW during their interview:
He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that,” Feige says. “What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life.”
To be fair to Thanos, in the comics he wants to put an end to all life in the universe, whereas here he's settling for half! “That’s either genius or horrific, depending on your point of view," continues Feige. "And most of our point of views say it’s pretty horrific.”
It's not a particularly drastic alteration to the character, but it is clearly designed to make his actions slightly more understandable.
What do you guys make of this new info? Would you have preferred if they stuck closer to the comics? Sound off below.
