THE BATMAN: Kristen Stewart Weighs In On Speculation She Could Play The Joker Opposite Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight one day clashing with The Joker is surely inevitable, and Kristen Stewart has now shared her thoughts on online chatter she should play a female Clown Prince(ss) of Crime...

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart starred alongside each other in the Twilight movies, but they've both since moved on to other, far more serious (and critically acclaimed) projects. Stewart has recently been doing the rounds to talk about playing Princess Diana in Spencer, while there's a huge amount of excitement surrounding Pattinson's lead role in The Batman

So, is there any chance Pattinson and Stewart could reunite later in Matt Reeves' planned trilogy? The actress is frequently suggested for a gender-swapped version of The Joker, something that would put a fresh spin on the iconic villain (who, in recent years, has been played by Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix).

Unfortunately, Stewart isn't interested.

"Let’s do something new," the actress recently told Variety. "I love the energy behind that. It’s really been done so well. I feel like, maybe, we don’t traipse over, but I love that gusto. Let’s figure something else out. I’m totally down to play a freaky, scary person." Asked if that was a definitive "no" to playing The Joker, she said, "Not ‘no,’ but not the most stoked I’ve ever been."

It would feel a tad gimmicky to reunite the former Twilight co-stars in a sequel to The Batman, though it certainly doesn't sound as if Stewart would turn down a comic book movie role. There have been rumours of the Clown Prince of Crime appearing in one of Reeves' rumoured sequels, though we'd be surprised if the filmmaker doesn't want to do something new based on how he's reinvented Riddler.

A female Joker would differentiate the next version from those who have come before, and it obviously wouldn't have to be Martha Kent beneath that twisted smile (which was the case in Flashpoint).

The Batman will be released exclusively in theaters on March 4, 2022.
