Yesterday, it was confirmed that Warner Bros. is developing a spinoff series set in the world of The Batman. Currently being described as an adaptation of the Gotham Central comic books, not a huge amount about the series is known, though there are conflicting claims about whether Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader and Jeffrey Wright's Commissioner Gordon will appear.

Now, though, Variety's Justin Kroll has shed some light on plans for the TV show, saying, "No idea if [Pattinson] will make an appearance but what I have learned is that it be set before when The Batman is set and dive into how Gotham became corrupt and infested with criminals."

That makes it a prequel, and Warner Bros. could avoid having to enlist The Batman stars by having it potentially set decades before the events of the movie. Terrence Winter's involvement could suggest that it's a period piece as he was obviously the mastermind behind Boardwalk Empire

The hope is that more details will be revealed at DC FanDome, but it's an intriguing concept, and not one which ends up being too similar to FOX's Gotham with any luck.

So it is the Gotham TV show again.

@Necropolitan - well doubt it will have Bruce and a bunch of his villains. Hell i doubt Gordon will be a major part of it. Love Gotham, but hopefully for this series, they focus on Rene Montoya, Crispus Allen and a few others and keep major villains to a minimum

Yea no not interested in a Gotham without Batman. I hope they don't take away villains that could appear in the Batman movies.

If I'm being honest I hope this isn't a real thing at all.

@RageDriver2401 - well considering reeves is doing a trilogy doubt he will have them use villains he plans to use, or at least they wont kill them off. Would be cool if Paul dano shows up as riddler at some point

@RageDriver2401 - With Matt Reeves being involved i can see him just pick the villains he doesnt plan to use on his trilogy of films

Watch multiple seasons of a cop procedural to see Batman put his suit on in the last episode.

Sounds fair.

@dracula - The 60's show is head and shoulders better than Gotham

@tmp3 - love the 60’s show.
Just got to say though while the overall presentation wasnt always on point in gotham, they did nail of majority of the characters. Also David Mazouz really was a great young bruce wayne. Some episodes dived more into his character than most of the films we have had

@dracula - For sure, certainly some people agree with you. I tried 3 times getting into Gotham and couldn't. Love the 60s show though

This isnt the first time HBO was involved with a Batman prequel. Before Smallville, a Bruce Wayne show was in development. HBO was in talks and supposedly the number 1 pick to play 18 year old Bruce was

@dracula - Lol no, The WB got the rights to, HBO was in very early negotiations but they fell through. I can't see teen bop Batman playing alongside The Sopranos

dracula - 7/11/2020, 3:03 AM
@tmp3 - havent seen the smallville creators other work, so i dont know if it would have been the same as smallville. Sometimes shows are altered to fit a network, although if it was going to be just like smallville, then yeah would not fit on hbo for sure

I really was hoping we were getting to see Gotham where Batman exists, but cannot always be around. Now it kinda sounds like Gotham.

I was eager to see some Batfamily characters, but not if the exist in proto-versions of themselves like in Gotham.

Maybe it could be that the first season takes place before, and possible later seasons after the movie. Would generate some interesting dynamics.

You are defending a city so corrupt that we have infiltrated every level of its infrastructure.

No one can save Gotham.

This movie man. I'm sorry but Batman Begins is the ultimate Batman movie.

I think Nolan did an amazing job with Gotham, especially in Batman Begins and as someone who really enjoyed the Batman Telltale games, i wonder if the Waynes will be saints or if they were hiding a dark secret.
Not saying that they were part of the mafia, but more like...you know, forced to close an eye in front of certain things, in order to control the chaos.
Cobblepot could be the necessary evil, cause he's the devil you know, he controls Gotham, because he has big plans for the city, like maybe even becoming the Mayor.
So the crime rate can't be too high, thing is...he also controls the crime world.
The Waynes were aware of all of this, his money laundering and even if the Waynes were powerful, it's not like Thomas could do much about it.
Especially not with lil Bruce around.
I also wonder if we'll have Martha Kane or Martha Arkham.

Whenever they play with this stuff, i always find it very fascinating, because losing his parents was the main reason why Bruce became Batman and every child thinks that their parents are perfect but that's not always the case, especially in Gotham and to compromise that idea is a nice way to instill fear and doubts in Bruce.
I guess the question i'd like them to ask is: What is that thing that makes Bruce... Batman?

It's the perfect Batman movie for me.

It really hits all the right spots for me and i don't have words do describe just how much! :)

@TheUnworthyThor - well Matt Reeves will be doing it and it is actually called Gotham Central, so it will probably be more like that comic

Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 7/11/2020, 2:51 AM
@MarvelDCAllDay - Gotham was pretty high quality for a comic book show anyway. Good acting and a 4 million dollar budget per episode. Was one of the most expensive shows on TV for the first 2 seasons. Certainly more resources went into it than the CW shows.

@Nightwing1015 - Yeah, they also actually filmed in NYC. Filming there is NOT cheap.
