The Batman has already been delayed from next June to October, and while shooting is scheduled to resume soon, it will reportedly do so entirely behind closed doors. Find out more details after the jump!

Before COVID-19 started closing down film productions across the globe, we were treated to a fair few photos from the set of The Batman, including shots of the Caped Crusader racing into action on his Batcycle alongside Selina Kyle. Director Matt Reeves even shared official shots of the Batmobile in anticipation of The Dark Knight's ride being spotted driving around Edinburgh, Scotland.

Unfortunately, we never got to see those photos due to what's currently happening in the world, but we now have a positive update on when work will resume.

As you can see below, former Variety writer Kris Tapley has revealed that the plan is for shooting on the DC Comics adaptation to resume this September. Unfortunately, all locations have now been scrapped, and that means Gotham City is going to be build in a studio instead.

That's not the end of the world as Tim Burton created his Gotham City behind closed doors; however, the overall aesthetics of both Christopher Nolan's movies (which used Chicago) and Zack Snyder's (Detroit) were definitely enhanced with practical locations, and the Gothic feel of cities like London and Edinburgh certainly would have had the same impact on The Batman

Still, it is what it is at this stage, and it's just a relief to think production can now safely resume...

I hope it doesn't contrast with whatever they shot on location.

But im sure Reeves thought of that. So hyped for this movie

@DannRamm113 - CGI can fix literally ANYTHING these days.

@KingLeonidas - well it can fix anything if the cgi is good. If not it will just be distracting

Fingers crossed this isn’t a total disaster, I get that the cast isn’t terrible and the director has made a few good movies, but I’ve never been completely sold on another reboot that’s disconnected from the interconnected universe that’s failed so miserably.

Here’s hoping DC gets their shet together

I mean, a lot of Marvels stuff is still shot in a studio and it looks fantastic. Like the big airport scene was in front of a green screen and it was seamless. Plus this could help it have a more stylized look, And hey no set photos means no more people having baseless speculation. So I'm okay with all of this :).

I'm still insanely anxious about this movie, but i'm hoping this will allow for more surprise.

Disappointed but not surprised. The fact that it was never prepped to be an entirely in-studio shoot is a bit concerning, but hopefully Reeves & Fraiser don't have to make too many compromises with the film's visual landscape.

@tmp3 - They have two months to prep everything and i'm betting Reeves has been doing some re writes to accommodate. It'll be fine.

I feel like this is going to become the new normal for at least the next 6-8 months. Between the tech they used on The Mandalorian and digitally inserting actors from separate takes, I think hollywood has settled on a few ways to circumvent on location shoots in a lot of cases

They keep saying how dark this movie will be, but I hope they don't forget Batman is human. Not a freakin demon. Have some comedy, some lighthearted moments. Don't have a 2 hour session of doom & gloom.

The last time a Batman movie was shot in a studio, it turned out [frick]ing gorgeous.

@RageDriver2401 - To the naysayers who aren't happy with the studio shoots, they just need to... lighten up.

That’s actually a damn shame about the locations. That sucks. Love when they shoot on location Hope those sets are legit.

Let's hope it's shot tastefully and it doesn't look like a Sin City type CGI nightmare.
The grounded realism of shooting on location will be missed, but perhaps they can take advantage of a controlled environment to give Gotham back it's Gothic-ness

As long as the sets don't look like this:

I'll be okay with it. Hyped for this movie.

@regularmovieguy - Why though? You do realize green screen is used seamlessly in even indie films these days?
