5 Reasons You Should Ignore The Critics And See BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE This Weekend

Critics have not been kind to Batman v Superman, but they're wrong about this movie. So, if they've put you off watching it this weekend, you need to have a read of this SPOILER-FREE look at why you should.

As I write this, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. That must mean it sucks, right? Wrong. To judge a movie by a picture of a tomato is madness, especially when there are many terrible movies which have been certified "Fresh" and several great ones left with a "Rotten" score. Now, there's no denying that the percentage awarded to Batman v Superman could be perceived as an indication of its quality, but this feels like one of those movies the vast majority of critics never truly wanted to like and have since delighted in tearing apart as viciously as possible.

While may reviewers have provided some actual insight into what they feel didn't work in the movie, most seem content with dismissing it because it's not as humourous as a Marvel movie or the fact that it's ultimately a love letter to DC Comics fans which doesn't hold their hands the entire time by spelling out every little nuance to them. Regardless, while I can understand why the reviews may have put you off checking out Batman v Superman this weekend, I'm here to tell you that would be a huge mistake. Why though should you ignore the critics? Well, allow me to explain why this is a must-see movie...

5. It's Most Definitely "Fun"

One of the most confusing criticisms I've seen levelled at Batman v Superman is that it's lacking any sense of fun. While it's true that the movie is light on jokes, it's almost as if Marvel's humourous offerings have left critics under the impression that every single comic book adaptation needs to be crammed full of one liners and sight gags.

That aside, and this is definitely a "fun" movie. Jesse Eisenberg is a treat to watch and the interactions between Alfred and Bruce are a delight. Plus, if you can't have "fun" watching Batman and Superman knocking seven bells out of each other before teaming up to take on Doomsday, you may just be dead inside.

Regardless, while this movie may be a darker than what we're used to from the genre, you'll definitely have a grin on your face from start to finish.

I don't want to dwell too much on the movie's reviews, but I find those which have pointed out that the fight between Batman and Superman is eight minutes not worth waiting for to be ridiculous. Were they sitting there with a stopwatch timing the damn thing so they'd have a witty line handy for their whiney breakdowns?

I have no idea, but trust me when I say that the battle between these two heroes is nothing short of amazing.

For a while, I was concerned that Warner Bros. had shown too much in the trailers, but there's so much more to this one than they've reveaed over the past few months. As the two heroes exchange blows, you'll find yourself on the edge of your seat and unable to decide who to root for as both men go to extreme measures to stop the other in their tracks.

3. It's Something New

I love Marvel's movies. Hell, over the past few years, I've even come around to Fox's offerings (apart from Fantastic Four, obviously). Even Sony...er, nevermind. The thing about Batman v Superman though is that it's something completely fresh and unlike any other comic book movie ever seen.

I mean, it's kicking off a brand new universe for starters, and that alone is exciting. Whether you consider yourself a casual or hardcore fan, seeing characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman sharing the same world is historic and a true first in an age of endless sequels and reboots.

Don't get me wrong, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is nowhere near stale even after eight years, but checking out the first step in a world packed full of equally iconic characters should be a must for you.

2. It Has A Better Bad Guy Than The Marvel Movies

While Doomsday's appearance and the effects driven final act are no doubt going to remain divisive subjects for a long time to come, Lex Luthor is possibly the best comic book movie villain since Loki.

Chances are that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex isn't going to be to everyone's tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him. While his master plan may have some flaws, it's still a lot of fun to watch play out, and the movie takes him on a very interesting journey before leaving him in a pretty damn exciting place by the time all is said and done.

Long story short, if you're sick of Marvel's forgettable bad guys and want to see one who has a major impact on what's happening on screen and will stick with you for a long time, Batman v Superman is definitely the movie for you.

1. It's The Start Of The DC Films Universe

I mentioned this earlier, but it's worth circling back to. The fact that Batman v Superman kicks off a shared universe doesn't automatically make it good (just look at The Amazing Spider-Man 2), but if nothing else, Zack Snyder succeeds in creating this world and perfectly setting the stage for Justice League.

That deserves to be applauded, and whether you're a Marvel fan, a DC fan, or love both equally, you should be excited that we're getting a whole new world full of superheroes to enjoy. The DC Films Universe failing helps no one, and regardless of its flaws, Batman v Superman is a good start and an exciting glimpse at what the future holds in store for us fans.

Ultimately, you need to judge this movie for yourself and see if it's a world you want to become invested in...I think you will!

I don't think any other Director would have included such rich references to classic comic book storylines and images.Those with a knowledge of the original source material would definitely have have a better appreciation of the movie. The Batman Superman fight was fantastic. This version of Luther was a million times better than the Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey versions.

@Batmaniac - To each his own, I absolutely loved Lex. The way he spoke, his quirks etc. One of my favorite things in the movie was Lex especially with how the audience in the Imax I went to last night reacted. They laughed and oddly some clapped for his scenes

No idea how anyone could like Lex. He was awful. A whiny, spoiled brat that keeps changing his agenda throughout the movie. Throws a shit fit cus Bats takes what he stole and wants Supes to do his bidding. Awful.

@Sxcory - Yeah, he set that up for Batman to steal it the whole time. He even stated he was manipulating him and orchestrating the show down from the start.

As for his psychosis, he knew about Darkseid coming, so yeah, whether he was driven mad or having a mania, we'll see later on in Justice League.

@Sxcory - you obviously didnt see the movie and are reading some vlifc notes or are extremely slow. HIS PLAN WAS THE WHOLE MOVIE!! He set up the african incident to get superman to the capitol. He HE SMILED when e batman btoke into his place. He bribes superman to kill batman, when really he thought he had done enough manipulating that Bruce would actually kill superman. You should read a different site next time before u try to sound like u know what you are talking about.

I agree with Josh for once. See this movie guys form your own opinion. A lot of the critiques for this movie I didn't agree with at ALL. Not Fun? I had plenty of fun in the theater. It's a solid 8.5/10 for me, I can't wait to see it again on tuesday.
