BLACK PANTHER Exclusive: Writers Explain How Chadwick Boseman's Portrayal Inspired SINS OF THE KING
We recently spoke with the writing team behind Marvel's Black Panther: Sins of the King, and each of them shared how the late Chadwick Boseman inspired their version of T'Challa and the series itself.
Serial Box and Marvel have been teaming up to deliver a universe of comic book stories and characters in audible form for the past couple of years. The team initially began with Thor: Metal Gods, and Jessica Jones: Playing with Fire and Black Widow: Bad Blood were both quick to follow.
2021 kicked off the newest series, Black Panther: Sins of the King, which explores the relationship between T'Challa and his father, as well as the dissonance between his learned history of Wakanda and the truth left out of the history books.
The audio-comic was in the midst of production when news of Boseman's passing came to light. However, when we spoke to the writing team, they admitted that the actor's unparalleled portrayal of the regal superhero had already influenced both the story and the character itself even before his death.
During our chat with Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due, we dived into the events of Black Panther: Sins of the King and spoke about Boseman's influence on the story. The writers also shared their thoughts on where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed post-Boseman.
The below chat with South African writer Mohale Mashigo focuses on how she approached the character of Shuri, her thoughts on the big-screen Black Panther and the general MCU, and of course, how Chadwick Boseman helped inspire the writing for T'Challa's character in the newest series.
Do you guys believe that comic characters should be inspired by the actors who play them or the other way around? In any case, Boseman's performances as T'Challa in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame definitely made an impression on many comic creatives.
