It may seem hard to believe that a full year has passed since we lost Chadwick Boseman, but the Black Panther star tragically passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on the 28th of August, 2020.

Despite his diagnosis, Boseman was determined to overcome his cancer and remained optimistic that he would return as T'Challa for the Black Panther sequel right until the end. His sense of hope and fighting spirit continue to inspire people around the world, so it's no surprise that tributes have been flooding in on social media.

You'll find just some of the heartfelt messages and artwork from those who knew Boseman, and others who looked up to him, below.

This great artist may have left us, but he will live on through his body of work and will never be forgotten.

Rest in power, King.

@Doomsday8888 - Speaking of another King. In this case of the pop variety, It's Michael's birthday tomorrow.

I don't normally feel affected by the passing of a celebrity. I mean, I feel sadness, but it doesn't really affect me as much as someone I personally know of course. But his passing felt different. He seemed like such a humble dude. Also very brave from what I hear. Watching What If, and hearing his voice was both exciting and kinda painful. R.I.P King

@DarthOmega - Yeah same pretty much. Bowie hit me hard because I was such a huge fan for most of my life, but Boseman was also just such a shocker. I was sitting in a pub in Wexford when I got the news. I'll raise a glass again tonight.

@RorMachine - I sadly didn't get into Bowie until after his death. So many years. So many great songs. At least it lives on. That's the great part about art. From a canvas, to film to music... If it's great, it never dies.

Oh, man. One year already? Gotta watch one of his movies today. I think I'm gonna make this a tradition.

@Drace24 - So few, great films (most representing great African American men), in such a short amount of time. Not enough. A great loss to the art, but also to all people.

Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman

This one hit hard because it felt so sudden and came so shortly after the character became so popular and beloved. He really was just hitting his stride and it’s sad to see him go

It’s unbelievable that he’s been gone a year already. And yet, it still doesn’t compare to the state of disbelief that one late night a year ago. I remember reading the headline, and I couldn’t even process it at first. I had to reread it a number of times. It felt like the report had to be a mistake. Honestly, even after all that I had been through that year, this one moment felt like I was trapped in some horrible nightmare.

I will not mourn on this day, but celebrate his legacy and who he was.

He was something special as soon as he stepped out the gates! Even before the MCU, he was a thrill of a good actor. Let’s celebrate his success in the short time we were blessed with him on this plane.

@Cbmfilmjunkie - lol! I truly wonder what creative teams Feige was considering to make the movie while it was slated as a movie

@JFerguson - I was reading up on it and seems like it was just doomed from the start. Too early in the MCU to bring in something as big as the Inhumans.

That’s mutant level big.

Now would be the time since they’re bringing in F4 and the Eternals and Ms Marvel.

I remember when I found out. Just scrolling through IG that evening. Came across that post, thought it was Chadwick posting a pic of himself. Then I read the caption he passed....and I was in complete shock the rest of the evening. RIP Mr. Boseman.

I've legitimately never dropped a tear for a celebrity death before Chadwick. Like Ror said it was so unexpected I couldn't believe it when it happened and honestly still can't.

Just seemed like an amazing person who was gone too soon. That video with him talking about the two kids with cancer is just a gut punch in hindsight

Rest easy, King T'Chadwick

@MyCoolYoung - Same I never really cry over celeb deaths, but last year was my breaking point with Chadwick and Kobe's deaths
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 8/28/2021, 8:53 AM
@HAUSMAN01 - I had an entirely different type of visceral reaction to Kobe dying than Chadwick, largely because - as a Trailblazers fan - I'd spent most of my child and teenage years hating Kobe, so seeing him and everyone in that helicopters life get snuffed out so tragically was incredibly horrifying but also very humbling forme personally. There's really a much smaller place for hate in my heart after he passed.

@HAUSMAN01 - man Kobe's felt so surreal like I couldn't believe it. I thought it was rumor spreaded. Last year was just crazy

@HAUSMAN01 - same dude, those 2 hit me unbelievably hard. I've grown up in LA my whole life, & Kobe was a huge inspiration for me, with his work ethic & determination. Chadwick's death was particularly awful since it felt like he was just getting started & had so many stories left to tell. It still makes me sad thinking about either one of them.

I was just watching videos of Chadwick the other day. I'll never forget the day I saw the news. My heart sank. I never thought a celebrity death would affect me the the same as losing a personal loved one, but it got me right near it.

I didn’t talk about this because I was using cbm as an escape, but…

Last year my grandma died on 8/26, not covid related, but old age pretty much. She slowly and then rapidly shut down. It was literally her 87th birthday.

Well

This past Thursday, 8/26, my dad and I worked an event on my food truck. We went home to my house. I went to Walmart to buy a couple things. That was the last time I saw him alive, and we weren’t getting along😔i got home and figured he was asleep, I found him passed away on my couch the next morning, yesterday, but he died 8/26, a year to the day after my grandma, so also on her birthday.
