Following her Academy Award-nominated directorial debut One Night in Miami, multi-time Emmy Award-winning Watchmen star Regina King has signed on to helm an adaptation of Image Comics' Bitter Root for Legendary Entertainment.

Described as "Get Out meets Blade," the Eisner Award-winning comic created by David F. Walker, Sanford Greene and Chuck Brown is set during the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s, and focuses on a family of once-great monster hunters who must face a new evil that descends upon New York.

“For generations, the Sangeryes have hunted and cured those infected by a supernatural force that feeds off of prejudice and transforms humans into monsters," reads Legendary's logline. "But with most of the family gone, the remaining Sangeryes disagree over saving or killing the monsters.”

King will also produce along with her sister Reina King via their Royal Ties banner, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, and Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian via Proximity Media. No release or production start date has been announced.

I really need to watch One Night in Miami and see Regina's style, because it surely seems like she is on her way to direct big time blockbusters pretty soon along with the great indie films.

This sounds so good.

Wonder if this means she's out of the running for Blade and Superman?

Regina King would be a great director and showrunner for "Truth" a Disney + Show.

great actress, I started to watch Southland because of her, it's a very good show from the creator of Ray Donovan, also starring: Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom) and Ben McKenzie (Gotham)

Been following Sanford Greene's art for awhile now, cool to see this get picked up for a movie.

This is the era we're in now, where if you make it in one medium, who knows...maybe you'll find yourself impacting another.

Good stuff!

I met the comics creative team at ECCC in Seattle in 2019. Was so impressed I bought the set. The story is amazing and the back cover has a scholarly mini-essay that is a soy worth the read. This will likely stand alongside other great films and shows centered on race relations. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the next run

Not familiar with it, but the premise and the names involved make it sound interesting

Does this mean she's not doing Superman?

Because the idea of Dr. Manhattan making a Superman movie is too good to resist.

Maybe she can squeeze this in before Superman's ready.

Sounds like a good project to keep an out for. Regina is in demand and I hope this turns out to be a successful venture.
