We have a potentially very interesting casting update for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as it sounds like the Marvel Studios sequel has added one of Namor the Sub-Mariner's obscure foes.

We're still waiting for that Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, but Doctor Strange in the Multiverse is a movie that has fans just as excited for Marvel Studios' ambitious Phase 4 plans.

Now, some social media sleuths have figured out that the sequel has added British actress Yenifer Molina to the cast. The information was shared to a casting website (where the details are uploaded by her representatives as opposed to something like IMDb that can be edited by anyone) and reveals that the Detective Pikachu and Tom and Jerry actress will play Gargantos.

Does the name ring a bell?

We'd be surprised if your answer was "yes," because the character has only appeared in two comic books. In both of those, the sea monster was depicted as a servant of Naga, a longtime Namor the Sub-Mariner foe. Gargantos factoring into this Multiverse spanning adventure is definitely a surprise, but isn't necessarily an indication that we can expect to pay a visit to Atlantis next year.

Remember, Shuma Gorath is said to be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' lead villain, so this creature being depicted as one of his minions would make a lot of sense.

After NWH, keep forgetting that’s coming out before MoM.

I dont know how Doc Strange 2 and Spidey isn’t going to be everyone’s most anticipated movies. I’m foaming at the mouth waiting for these two movies. I love everything they’re attempting to do it’s these two. I love Raimi directing DS2 and I love all this multiverse stuff. I’m pumped.

I prefer Yenifer Molina to be Nagala. Perhaps Lemurian Empress with the mystical Serpent Crown. A look similar to Medusa

"the sea monster was depicted as a servant of Naga"

I can see the appeal.

Though I relate more with Lina.

Another individual with the last name Molina is playing an Octopus? In the words of J Jonah Jameson, "What are the odds?"

Just the mere mention of Naga makes me think Set (the Elder God) might actually be the villain in this and not Shuma Gorath.

Set started to collect Serpent Crowns (which he already is connected to) from alternate dimensions to set him free. Another Elder God, Chthon, is already connected to the Darkhold, so maybe Set knows of the Darkhold and might need it as a final key.

Don't know how America Chavez factors into this, but I know her powers are connected to Demiurge (another Elder God) and that in the comics Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man and The Thing stopped Set.

So TL;DR: forget Shuma Gorath, embrace the Elder Gods!

@bkmeijer -
If the MCU does Set I can see them rolling it in with Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent, somehow.
