ETERNALS Has Been Rated PG-13 For Fantasy Violence...And Brief Sexuality?! ETERNALS Has Been Rated PG-13 For Fantasy Violence...And Brief Sexuality?!

It looks like that's a picture lock on Eternals as the Marvel Studios movie has received its expected PG-13 rating. However, mention of "brief sexuality" has caused quite a lot of discussion online...

Eternals is on track for a big screen release on November 5 later this year, and it looks like Disney and Marvel Studios have the finished product ready to start rolling out to critics over the coming weeks.

The movie is also set to arrive in some international locations at the end of October, so avoiding spoilers might prove to be challenging (that was definitely the case with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings after fan screenings took place weeks before it arrived in theaters).

As per usual, the MPAA has shared its rating for this upcoming title and we're sure you won't be surprised that it's going to be PG-13. Until Deadpool 3 is released, that's the norm for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the fact that Eternals has received this rating for "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality" has definitely surprised some fans online.

"Fantasy violence and action" and "some language" is to be expected, but "brief sexuality" could mean many different things. We could see a relatively tame sex scene or implied nudity, but the sad fact is this probably refers to Phastos (a male character) having a husband. The MPAA is a little behind the times and tends to be pretty strict rating anything with LGBTQIA+ content.

Marvel Studios may have released the final trailer for Eternals, but we're bound to see a lot more from this movie over the coming weeks. As always, you'll want to check back here for updates!

@thor1991 - You agree with a 'parents' choice, but not a womans' right to choose what happens to her own body?

Oh boy if you think homosexuality is unnatural, I hate to be the one who bursts your bubble:

Probably Makkari (the deaf one) signing about walking in on Angelina Jolie and the deviant king.

If it's about the gay kiss, that's just sad, especially since the intention is to represent a queer relationship in a non-sexual lighting.

@WakandanQueen - Agreed, but it's gotta be a tight rope to walk (if the sexuality reference is about homosexuality) given how little time (I'm guessing) their relationship will get.

How do you 'normalise' any queer relationship that appears for the first time in such a massive franchise, without the relationship seeming non-sexual? They don't kiss? Just general relationship stuff, but isn't that the typical showing but not actually showing - like they would for hetero-normative couples (e.g. Modern Family).

It won't be the focal point, let's face it (its an ensemble & a big action packed Marvel film!), so it may seem out-of-tune within the film itself? All I can say is good luck to Chloe & Marvel: Chloe seems to have a good head on her shoulders. Though to be honest Marvel have been very good at dulling romance in general.

An issue I have with this is nothing about sexuality but that these seemingly immortal beings have human lovers that they will easily out live and be around people that have to know that they don’t age or change over decades. Reminds me of the movie hancock where Charlize Theron where she fell in love with a mortal but she won’t ever age or change and that always bothered me as how do you hide? Now how can anyone not have known about the externals by now? The other thing then leads to the issues is if you have loved ones and thanos did the snap then it makes it even harder for me to believe that you wouldn’t fight to protect them…idk just something that bothers me in movies like this where they have to play the “we’ve been around thousands of years” card

Does Eternals have a huge following or there hoping by Marvel name alone it's going to make bank?

I don't get it. Why is the assumption, that there won't be a love scene, or an implied sexual interaction? If it ends up being just a "gay kiss", then the MPAA will be criticized, and rightfully so.

I don't have children and I stopped paying attention to films' ratings in 1980. I mean, it's not going to make any difference one whether or not I see it.

Does anyone here without children care about the films' ratings?
