ETERNALS Star Richard Madden On The Possibility Of Ikaris Replacing Iron Man As The Avengers' Leader
Ikaris is set to be a powerful new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but could he lead The Avengers? Richard Madden has now shared his thoughts on the possibility his hero could replace Iron Man!
There's a lot of excitement surrounding the release of Eternals this November, and not just because we're about to meet some powerful new superheroes. This movie is going to open the door to countless new storytelling possibilities, including the potential emergence of mutants and maybe even Galactus (reimagining him as a Celestial would make sense).
Time will tell on that front, of course, but we're bound to see at least some of these characters assemble alongside The Avengers now that they appear to be playing an active role in human affairs.
Ikaris has to be a contender when it comes to finding a new leader for The Avengers, and actor Richard Madden commented on that during a recent interview with Total Film (shared on Twitter by @CreamOrScream). "I don't know. I know that he's a good leader and a good soldier. If those are two traits that you need to lead the Avengers, then he has them. But I wouldn't be able to predict that."
In the same interview, Madden opened up on what most excited him about Ikaris. "I don't see him as a superhero I've seen before. I see him as a man first, and quite a complicated character, before a superhero," the actor teased. "You know, superheroes have laser eyes. Superheroes can fly. So, there's lots of parallels. But as a character, I've not seen anyone like him before."
"The concept of these characters, and how deep Chloé wanted to go with these people who have been alive for so long, and have experienced so many different things," Madden continued. "So that's what really intrigued me - how these people interact with each other, and also the rest of the world when they've seen everything and done everything. That was kind of fascinating."
Something tells us there could be big plans for Ikaris moving forward, but whether they involve The Avengers remains to be seen. We're almost certainly going to see Sersi and Black Knight join Earth's Mightiest Heroes if Marvel Studios is looking to follow the comic books, but Ikaris has always had something of a contentious relationship with the costumed crusaders who are part of that team.
Do you think Ikaris should lead The Avengers in Iron Man's place?
