Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Azrael
Alon Abutbul - to play William Hurt

NOT CONFIRMED, MOST LIKELY SCENARIO'S THOUGH!

After watching the trailer for TDKR during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 it was revealed to me that Bane would follow the plot of "Knightfall".
I came upon this assumption through the words of the hospitilized commissioner Gordon who said during the teaser "We were in this together, then you were gone…….Now this Evil rises. The Batman…..HAS to come back.(all this is said in a very raspy voice, in much pain)" to which Batman replies (or possibly Bruce wayne, the audience is not revealed who is talking though it is most likely Wayne) "What if he doesn’t exist anymore?"

This suggests that Batman will be defeated by Bane during the movie which would explain why we have those leaked pics of the Lazarus pit's (After Wayne's spinal cord is broken by Bane and is in need of repair such as in the Comic 'Knightfall') and why Liam Neeson will also return for this movie. Also, it is odd we have actors such as Joseph Gordon Levitt portray John Blake, "a Gotham City beat cop", who could possibly be Azrael, who is incidentally an "ex-cop" who gained enhanced strength and reflexes after being experimented on by evil scientist Doctor Hurt, who actor Alon Abutbul's character could possibly play; a "Mad Scientist". Now this piece of plot starts clicking and suggests that Azrael is the character Joseph Gordon Levitt will portray, who was also originally a character who was supposed to be a replacement batman (or hero) if something happened to Batman designed by the Gotham Police.

Also the chanting heard in the trailer could be that of the Arkham Asylum prisoners who Bane free's that would later exhaust Batman who would have to round them up which would lead to the confrontation of Bane breaking Batman's back

I know you could bring up that Azrael's name is Michael Washington Lane, but in the movies comic book name's can be skewed into making a somewhat original character.

I would really like to hear what the rest of you readers think of the plot I've been suggesting.

I like how you connected some dots together but it's not going to happen and I hope it doesn't.

RUMORS state that the "Lazarus Pits" is actually a water well of sorts {Bane is seen rising from the well in the teaser trailer}. The League of Shadows supposedly has set fire to an Alcatraz-island-esque prison. Bane was a convicted bandit. He escapes the chaos erupting in the prison when he discovers the well. The chanting, "he rises, he rises" is heard. As he nears the top, an explosion rises up the the well. Young Ra's sees this, Bane feels no pain. I BELIEVE Ra's thinks Bane is the avatar of a deity. Bane, living with this false belief that he is immortal sets out to conquer. Over-confidence that leads to his downfall, dying in a flame he started {his tactic is to set building on fire and gain the upper-hand on opponents, explaining the breather mask}.

Catwoman probably takes Azrael place as a Batman replacement while Bruce is in exile. John Blake is a beat cop. Gordon is going to die. Miranda Tate is the love interest. Bane burns buildings, bringing Bruce back.

actually, the Azrael that took over for Batman in the comics was named Jean Paul Valley.

also, Jean Paul was not a policeman that they had ready in case Batman fell. He was part the avenging angel of a medievel cult, who later became friends with Batman.

I don't know, all this sounds a little far fetched, and you don't really have anything to support any of it.

lazarus pit:ain't happening. too supernatural for nolan. he is too realistic when it comes to batman...

I like Desperos idea of burning the buildings down for the advantage. Or even just destroying them with all the debris falling...I see the Lazarus pit only being used as a spiritual thing. Like holy water. Only if you believe in it, it will work

The problem I see with your theory is that it ignores the events of the end of TDK. Batman is on the run, Gordon is hunting him. The mob is in tatters, the Joker is in custody and Gotham is angry at Batman for the murders of cops and Harvey Dent. Rachel is dead. Batman will be shut down in the wake of those circumstances and Bruce’s grief…feeling responsible for the death of Rachel and Dent.

So the absence of Batman that Gordon is talking about from his hospital bed is that. And his request to have Batman come back is to face down Bane who is destroying Gotham. That’s when we’ll see the epic battle.

I believe that Batman will be broken by Bane. Why else would Nolan work so hard to make a Bane that fits his universe, when villains that are more ready made exist? Ignoring Bane’s iconic accomplishment would be a waste. And remember the words of the teaser: EVERY HERO HAS AN END.

I think JGL could still factor in as a replacement for Batman. But not in the way you describe. I think he’s filling the role of Max Cort (renamed John Blake). The police officer who heads the task force for capturing Batman. More on that below.

We still have not had an answer to Gary Oldman’s comments from earlier in the year that the villain would be from one of the old, old comics. I think we’re still going to get Hugo Strange. Batman is going to be battling it from all sides, with the police and Strange trying to hunt him and Bane/LOS destroying the city. Strange is trying to find out Batman’s identity and he manipulates Blake into believing he could be Batman himself. Blake finds out that Bruce Wayne is Batman. He finds the Batcave and puts on the suit. He runs into Bane somehow and gets beaten and his back broken.

Bane believes he has killed the Batman forever. But he’s mistaken. With the element of surprise, Bruce is able to defeat Bane in the end and become the white knight and will be cleared of all the Dent murders.

What’s key here is how these scenes are presented in the film. I believe that we’ll see Bane break Batman’s back in the first scenes of the movie (key people have described the opening scenes of the movie as incredible). You’ll have no lead up or idea what’s going on (Nolan is the king of cutting a movie like this). Then it will flash back to events immediately after TDK or perhaps a flashback to a young Ra’s al Ghul discovering Bane somehow.

Thoughts?

@ jb

you make a whole lot more sense than this article does.

however, Catwoman was in the old, old batman comics. I believe she was actually in his first issue. so i think Catwoman is the old, old villain people were talking about. I realize she's more of an ally than a villain, but to most she's considered a villain.

In Batman Begins you have Bruce searching for answers to the death of his parents, his feeling of helplessness to protect them or get justice for them and he stumbles on the LOS. He uses that training to learn how to be Batman and protect Gotham (and people like his parents) and stands up to the LOS.

In Dark Knight you have the Joker's chaos and escalation, and manipulating even the best of Gotham (Dent) into crimes resulting in the deaths of several innocent people. Batman feels empowered to meet the threat that he previously felt helpless in but the results are not what he had envisioned.

In Dark Knight Rises I believe we'll see an overlay and variation of both those themes from BB & TDK. Batman now morns people he loved (Dent & Rachel) but now he feels it was his own actions that led to their deaths and when the threat of Bane/LOS arises, he will be conflicted about intervening worrying that his help will do more harm than good. I think Hugo Strange helps reintroduce that manipulation theme, however twisted with John Blake conned into thinking he can be Batman, leading to the mistaken identity.

@ Corndog

Yeah, I know Catwoman was a old character, but Oldman made those comments after Catwoman was already revealed to be in the movie. Doesn't make sense to be keeping a secret about a character already revealed.

@ mtsirtsan

most likely scenarios according to who? you're thoughts? come on now. no one has mentioned anything about Azrael, no one knows if the Lazarus Pit will even be in it (doubtful), and pretty much everything else is just your speculation.

you can't say these the most likely scenarios.

@ jb

yeah, but there were reports from Mark Millar saying the same thing from way before either villain was announced.

i'm not saying your wrong at all, just that i don't think there is a third major villain they're hiding (unless its Al Ghul). never know though.

ive seen everyone in this site assuming that bruce wayne/batman is saying "what if he doesnt exist anymore" to gordon in the hospital. but its entirely possible that line what just cut into the trailer like trailers usually. trailers always cut up dialogue and piece them together differently

I was thinking more along the lines of Dark Knight Rises. Batman retires and Gordon knows who he is except the difference is when Bane shows up with the d only Gordon is left to stop them and he gets put in the hospital. Bruce goest to visit him and Gordon pleads with him to come back. Batman returns and gets owned by Bane at first and then in round two wins, rising to be Gotham's constant protector. Or at least something along those lines.

Bane is employed initially by the Police and puts Bats down (all the while secretly working for the League of Shadows who want the Bat out of the way too). Then he and the LoS turns on Gotham and when Gordon tries to stop Bane he puts Gordon in the Hospital. Gordon knowing who Batman is, like in the Dark Knight Returns, pleads with Bruce to come back after he quit with just one round with Bane.

I think Despero's right on the money with the Bane origin theories and it sounds really cool. Also I bet it's Bruce talking to Gordon in the hospital but wearing a ski mask like in Batman Begins when he visits him in his office and puts the stapler to the back of his head like a gun. Or he's just hiding in the shadows but I bet it's a mask cause hey remember those pictures of a stunt man wearing a mask hanging out the window when they were filming at the hospital in England a few weeks ago?

I think it'll be a combination of Legacy/ Bane the Demon/ Knightfall.

My theory is: Talia decides to try where her father fails and destroy Gotham. To do this she has to kill its protector, after seeing the truth that Batman is actually a hero. To do this she hires Bane, to break the Bat. With the Bat gone, the League "crumbles" Gotham, and it's citizens realize they need their Dark Knight.

@jbwyatt24 That even seems a little far fetched. I say Despero has it right about Bane's origin. Ras will definitely have been Bane's father figure/mentor. I really do think Miranda Tate is Talia Al Ghul. John Blake is probably a cop on Gordon's unit who is trying to hunt down Batman. I am not sure if Gordon knows that Bruce is Batman or not, but judging by the hospital bed scene, its very possible. I think Bane is gonna kick Batman's a$$, and this will lead to Batman having to go away for a little while. I think Josh Pence as a young Ras will only be used in flash back sequences of him teaching Bane as a younger guy. Thats what I think.

Could we see the villain firefly as well? In the story knightfall firefly is burning a zoo down and talks about how the fire rises and either a Facebook page or the viral videos were tagged with the quote "the fire rises". What do you think?

So, let me get this straight, all this was "revealed" to you, AND it's an "assumption?" Who revealed it? God? That's about the only "logic" you could use to justify that.

And we're supposed to take you seriously when you don't even understand how to use an apostrophe?

Often times sources cannot and should not be revealed so that people doubting others on here... And yes I believe that in fact John Blake will be Azrael. And therefor replace Bruce. The Batman is a "symbol" and once Bruce is gone Blake will take up the cowl in some shape or form...while it will not follow it exactly I can almost guarantee that this is correct. If JOHN Blake(JEAN-paul Valley) is already trained by another assassins guild is stretching it but mark my words...somehow in the story Blake will end up with much if not all of Waynes fortune and the ability to carry on as Batman.
