DOCTOR SLEEP Trailer Features Plenty Of Sinister Throwbacks To THE SHINING

As promised, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, and it appears as if this movie will make fans of The Shining very happy indeed...

Doctor Sleep is a sequel to The Shining, and while an argument could be made that the movie isn't in need of a follow-up, bear in mind that this is, in fact, a big screen adaptation of a novel written by Stephen King. The author has made it clear that he's not a fan of Stanley Kubrick's movie, but Warner Bros. clearly isn't shying away from tying this sequel into the iconic film.

In fact, there are a lot of visual throwbacks to The Shining in this first trailer for Doctor Sleep, and it will be interesting to see how director Mike Flanagan manages to link the books and films together.

With a superb cast made up of names like Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Bruce Greenwood, and Jacob Tremblay, this is one horror movie definitely worth keeping an eye on, and it certainly looks like a creepy, edge of your seat experience which could cap off a strong year for King fans after Castle Rock and September's IT: Chapter 2.

Looks good, and that was a well done trailer. I definitely enjoyed seeing those shots from The Shining play out. Rebecca Ferguson was creepy as hell in just those few seconds.

(I know this sounds really snobby but) the only thing I don't really like is the colour grading. It being the generic teal and orange is a bit distracting compared to The Shining's more realistic colours. Though maybe that was the point.

@DnA - omg same I thought I was being nitpicky but it stood out. Otherwise it looks great

Looks awesome. Flanagan's a really promising director but a sequel to the greatest horror film of all time (don't @ me) seems like a huge task, even for him. Dug Hill House a lot, and Gerald's Game was good too. Ewan/Fergussen should be a lot of fun. Who knows, maybe this'll be like what Blade Runner 2049 was to the original?

@tmp3 - First off, no one should @ you because it IS the greatest horror film of all time. Second, I was thinking the exact same thing about 2049. In some ways, I prefer 2049 to the original. I know that's heresy, but those are the facts.

@tmp3 - The Exorcist and The Omen are superior IMO. I still need to see Rosemary's Baby which I hear is one of the best too.

@soberchimera - I was pretty bored with Rosemary's Baby. But if we are talking horror movies, I have to say The Witch is creepy as fuuudge.

@Pathogen - Yeah it is. I get chills every time I think about that movie just as I do from remembering the first time I read The Shining.

Mike Flanagan directing, Ewan McGregor starring, original Shining footage and music? This looks great! Between this and IT: Chapter Two, I' am loving this new renaissance of Stephen King adaptations.

Did anybody read the book? I looked up the plot and wasn't super into how he continued this story.

@Kman - I read it and liked it. Look, if you are looking for a direct sequel to The Shining that recaptures the same terror as the original, you are going to be disappointed. As a horror, its fine but its a DAMN GOOD STORY overall with great, layered characters. Its a Danny Torrance story and you really get into the meat of his life.

An enthralling read for me.

@Kman - Read it. Loved it. Looking up the plot is doing it a huge disservice. The intricacies in Danny's Shining alongside the characterisations.. real highlights!

@Kman - I loved the novel and I was one of the people were asking why the sequel was even being written. Danny's story is great.

@Kman - What @BlackBeltJones said. Not scary, but damn, Dan is so well written, and the story is interesting.

I LOVE The Shining, and I really hope this one can live up to it, but the director does have a good track record with King adaptions at least.

Castle Rock? That show put me to sleep. Nothing great about it.

Mike Flanagen is probably the best modern day horror director right now so I got a lot of faith in this.
