BROTHERS BY BLOOD Star Maika Monroe Thinks It Could Be "Really Fun" To Star In A Superhero Movie - EXCLUSIVE

Talking to us about her role in new crime thriller Brothers by Blood, star Maika Monroe admitted that she wouldn't turn down the opportunity to take on a leading role in a Marvel or DC superhero movie...

Brothers by Blood takes place in Philadelphia, and picks up with eight-year-old Peter Flood after he helplessly watches on as his little sister is killed by a neighbour’s reckless driving. Tormented with grief and resentment, his father finds revenge as the only solution, leaving lasting generational wounds.

Thirty years later, Peter still wrestles with the guilt he feels over his sister’s death and his father’s vengeance. As he tries to distance himself from the criminal family business, his cousin, Michael, becomes more powerful in the hierarchy. Bonded by blood, neither man can escape violence as they are dragged further into a chilling cycle of betrayal and retribution. You can find our review here.

The movie stars Matthias Schoenaert (The Old Guard), Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad), and Maika Monroe (The Stranger), and we caught up with the latter to discuss her taking on the role of Grace.

Monroe's name comes up a lot among comic book fans - it was just yesterday on this site that some of you suggested she could play Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot - but what's Maika's take on superhero movies? We asked if the genre is of interest, and while she's by no means a fan, it sounds like this isn't an opportunity the actress would turn down if it were or one day present itself.

"[Laughs] You know, I'm not really...I don't watch a lot of those movies. I know that some are done really well, so I think I'd be open. A lot of cool directors are starting to get involved in making these films, so I think it could be something really fun, you know, if it's done well."

We then noted that a lot of female filmmakers are stepping behind the camera to tell these stories (with strong female characters like Black Widow on screen), so could a scenario like that encourage Mailka to board a major Marvel or DC project one day? "Oh, yeah, absolutely," she says. "Absolutely."

Now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Brothers by Blood will be released in Select theaters, On VOD & Digital on January 22nd, 2021.
