EDGE OF TOMORROW & A QUIET PLACE Star Emily Blunt Joins Cillian Murphy In Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER
It looks like Christopher Nolan is staging A Quiet Place Part II reunion, as he's cast Emily Blunt in a leading role opposite Cillian Murphy in his upcoming historical thriller, Oppenheimer
Deadline is reporting that 2x BAFTA Film Award-nominee Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow; A Quiet Place) has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's upcoming historical thriller Oppenheimer, which Universal recently announced will open exclusively in theaters globally on July 21, 2023.
Blunt will play Katherine Oppenheimer, opposite her former A Quiet Place Part II co-star Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight trilogy; Peaky Blinders), who has been tapped to play the lead role of scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the "father of the atomic bomb."
The film is tentatively scheduled to begin production in early 2022, and as per Nolan standard, will shoot with a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film cameras, which will surely make this project one not to miss on the biggest screen imaginable.
Nolan is set to write and direct with Emma Thomas and Charles Roven attached as producers. Several of Nolan's favorite collaborators will also be involved in the project, including Academy Award-nominated director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema (Tenet; Dunkirk), editor Jennifer Lame (Tenet; Don't Worry Darling), and Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson (Tenet, Black Panther).
Looking ahead, July 2023 will also see the release of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 8 on July 7; and Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on July 28; so it looks like Nolan will definitely face some heavy competition from Kevin Feige and company during those late summer weeks.
