As promised, Disney-Pixar has released the first trailer for their latest sure-to-be smash hit animated adventure, Luca, which comes from the creative team behind the sublime Coco. Check it out...
The first trailer for Disney-Pixar's Luca is now online, and it promises another delightful animated adventure from the creative team behind Coco.
The teaser introduces two friends enjoying their holiday in Italy. As they run around getting into trouble and evading the grouchy locals, they end up falling into the ocean, and it's then revealed that... they're actually part fish?
We have no idea why the lads sprout gills when they hit water, but such a bizarre premise should make for a fun watch. The official synopsis suggests that only Luca's pal is a "sea monster," so there's clearly a lot more to be revealed.
“Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.”
"This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” said director Enrico Casarosa said in an official statement. “So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

Luca features Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder) as Luca Paguro, a bright and inventive 13-year-old sea monster with endless curiosity -- especially when it comes to the mysterious world above the sea; Jack Dylan Grazer (We Are Who We Are, Shazam) as Alberto Scorfano, an independent, free-spirited teenage sea monster with unbridled enthusiasm for the human world; Emma Berman as Giulia, an outgoing and charming adventurer who befriends Luca and Alberto; Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Saturday Night Live, Big Mouth) as Daniela, Luca's mother; Marco Barricelli as Massimo, Giulia's father; and Jim Gaffigan (The Pale Tourist, Troop Zero) as Lorenzo, Luca's father.
