A bit harsh! Following Dune director Denis Villeneuve's comments about Marvel movies, Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Demonic) has taken to Twitter to call the filmmaker out with a colorful response...

Demonic director Neill Blomkamp has responded to Denis Villeneuve's comments about Marvel movies, and it's probably fair to say he overreacted just a little.

As we reported earlier today, the Dune filmmaker was asked about the massive superhero movie boom during a recent interview, and said he believes “there are too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a cut and paste of others.” In a separate interview on the same subject, Villeneuve did clarify his statement by adding, "It doesn’t take anything away from the movies, but they are formatted.”

Many would agree with this viewpoint, and even if you happen to think he's way off, it'd be hard to read these comments as an attack or insult to the genre or its fans. The man is simply expressing his opinion, after all.

And yet, Blomkamp felt the need to Tweet the following:

We have no idea why Blomkamp shared such a harsh response, but he certainly seems to have taken offence to his fellow filmmaker's views on The MCU for some reason.

We'll be sure to update if the District 9 director decided to follow-up, but for now, let us know what you make of this situation in the comments down below.

Bit excessive in my opinion.

Am I get a little tired of the MCU? - Somewhat.

Would I consider them to be complete cookie cutter attempts at films? - No.

@Waddles - Exactly.

Luckily I'm into all types of films so I'm not frothing at the mouth at Denis' views. 😂

@Carnage1991 - I think it's more so the frustration cast members and crew members have when other directors who get the spotlight suddenly use that spotlight to bash projects and franchises.

@Waddles - To be fair, he did take it a little bit further.

“Perhaps the problem is that we are in front of too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a “cut and paste” of others. Perhaps these types of movies have turned us into zombies a bit”

He is definitely coming with a take and perspective that holds more weight than Scorsese’s, but I don’t think people enjoying MCU movies makes anyone “zombies”, especially when the blockbusters, action, and superhero movies of the Pre-MCU eras were just as plentiful.

Still think Neil had a bit of an aggressive response, would have loved to see what his actual thoughts on Denis take were instead of just calling him an asshole, but still
