Recently, actor Dan Aykroyd revealed that new writers were hired to work
Ghostbusters 3, the proposed third installment in the successful film series. With all the problems that the development has faced over the past few years, many were wondering/expecting that the film wouldn't make it out of development hell alive. But now, it seems like Sony Pictures is still interested in bringing the Ghostbusters back to the big screen.
Variety reports that scribe Etan Cohen - who previously worked on
Tropic Thunder and another threequel,
Men In Black 3 - has been tapped by Sony to rewrite the third
Ghostbusters movie. Back in September 2008, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (
The Office) were hired to work on reviving the franchise (the original film was the highest grossing film distributed by Columbia Pictures until
Men In Black and
Spider-Man were released).
Concerning what the film will be about, Variety reveals that the threequel
"is expected to find original castmembers Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray passing the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters." Perhaps we can expect to see Bill Murray return after all?
