The film industry is still reeling from the news that Warner Bros.' entire 2021 slate will hit HBO Max at the same time as theaters, but did you spot these new movie logos in that announcement promo?

Earlier today, WarnerMedia announced something that it's fair to say will change the film industry forever. Not too long ago, we learned that Wonder Woman 1984 would debut in theaters and the HBO Max streaming service on the same day (December 25th), but now every single 2021 movie on Warner Bros.' release schedule is set to follow the DC Comics adaptation. Clearly, it wasn't a one-off!

While they'll only be on the streamer for 31 days before becoming exclusive to theaters and eventually PVOD platforms, this is a huge move, and  one which will very likely see other studios follow suit.

As we noted, among the 2021 titles getting the HBO Max treatment are The Little Things, Judas and the Black Messiah, Tom & Jerry, Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat, Those Who Wish Me Dead, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, In The Heights, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Reminiscence, Malignant, Dune, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard, Cry Macho, and Matrix 4.

A promo was released confirming that each of the movies above will have a place on HBO Max, but did you spot these new logos for movies like The Matrix 4, Godzilla Vs. Kong, and Mortal Kombat?

They don't reveal much, of course, but it is still cool to see the updated title treatments.

The only theater to have responded to this news as of now is Cinemark, who tell Deadline"In light of the current operating environment, we are making near-term booking decisions on a film-by-film basis. At this time, Warner Bros. has not provided any details for the hybrid distribution model of their 2021 films."

The days of theaters boycotting a studio's releases are over if they hope to survive, so it is what it is!

I really like the cast they got for Matrix 4. Not expecting great things from Mortal Kombat

Looking forward to Many Saints Of Newark.

Not a fan of The Matrix movies.

Not really interested in Godzilla VS Kong, but might check it out eventually.

Mortal Kombat can really go either way, with it likely being bad.

Finally a Studio who wakes up, and face the reality. Hope Disney and co. will do the same way.

@jasonvoorhees - These films are going to lose a ton of money doing this WW84 COST 200 MILLION DOLLARS to MAKE

@TheCoonII - They’re losing tons regardless. This is a smart move and others would be foolish not to consider doing the same. Waiting for the right time to launch theater-wide, which still will likely take another year at the rate things are going, would only double the losses. This can help still build revenue and at the same time help determine what might be the best course of action post-pandemic.

@TheCoonII - More than that, I think Empire magazine said WW84 cost 300 mil to make because everything from costume, set design, and cgi were done live and by the finest in the industry. Similar to Tenet, WW84 needs to make 800 mil to "break even" which WB already knew wasn't going to happen this or next year.

TBH its smart to do this because similar to Disney and Netflix, if HBO Max wants to catch up they need to start investing more into their service. Disney invested 71 billion dollars (purchasing Fox and Hulu) and Netflix already spends 4 billion dollars a year since it started just for content. If they don't start investing, they are going to lose in the streaming wars.

@DTor91 - I swear some of you people want to see Hollywood start spending less on movies

@TheCoonII - That doesn't count on Streaming. It counts how many subscribers they get. And with all this movies, it will be a huge number, and will be come a big success for Warner.

@TheCoonII - HBOMax costs $15 a month and they're getting rid of the free trial just in time for WW84. Yeah theres always torrenting and all that stuff but the average consumer has no idea how to do those things.

They wont lose as much money as you think.

They'll lose even MORE if they only release it in cinemas when no one wants to go to them.

@TheCoonII - The way i see it. HBO max has 38 million subscribers at 16$ a subscription for a full year equates to $7.3 Billion

The cost to make a blockbuster is an estimated 100 mill but let's say 200 million. if they released 7 tentpole movies a year it would only cost them 1.4 billion. Which isn't that much considering they make more money off of merchandising.

The amount of money they could save advertising now too. This is a great move.

If anything movie theaters may become more of a niche market but they will still be there for the people that want to go. I'm good without.

Jimmy Olsen from Supergirl is playing Jax.....huh. hopefully he gets a good amount to do, in supergirl he barely did anything after the first season, even after they turned him into Guardian (diggle should have been guardian)

@JoeInTheBox - Tbh, titling it the M4TRIX is probably one of the rare instances I'm okay with, especially with its techno/cyber setting. But, F4tastic ruined that for me.

I'd be shocked if Disney+ don't announce something similar - it would be crazy not to, and I'm 100% on board with movies being distributed like this. It's the future

If I want to see something on the big screen I will (post-COVID), but it would be nice to have a choice. 🤔

@Squibbleme - I'd rather have a choice on the day of release...I've had countless movies (Endgame, included) ruined in the cinema by noisy people, etc. I don't think the big screen experience will ever vanish, it might just become more niche. I'd choose home over cinema any day to be 100% honest.

@TheCoonII - Yeah I kinda laughed at that. The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and... The Matrix 4. The suggest of Rebooted by @dracula makes sense but might be a lite TOO meta.

At least Mortal Kombat and Godzilla vs Kong get to go away quietly with this "1 year plan".
