BOX OFFICE: Disney And Lucasfilm's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Headed For $425 Million Opening Weekend

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII installment is going to "virtually" have the weekend all to itself and looks set for a $425 million global bow, including $200 million from North America.

If early accounts are any indication, Disney and Lucasfilm have a massive hit on their hands with Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. There hasn't been a single early-reaction that didn't indicate or imply that the latest installment surpasses Star Wars: The Force Awakens in every way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Last Jedi is estimated to gross $200+ million in North Amerca on its way to a $425+ million global haul.  More impressively, that figure doesn't include box office figures from China, where the film won't open until January 5.  The only other film daring to open this weekend is the animated family film, Ferdinand, which stars WWE superstar John Cena.

Will the film go on to surpass the box office records of $247.9 million opening weekend and $936.7 million domestic total set by The Force Awakens?  Share your thoughts in the usual space below.   Do you already have your tickets for Thursday night?
