Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker confirmed that Leia started training to become a Jedi following the events of Return of the Jedi, but she ended that after sensing that her son Ben Solo would die if she were to continue (he did anyway, of course, but ended up helping bring Balance to the Force).

Now, another big reveal from the novelization reveals that despite deciding against becoming a Jedi Knight, Leia still received guidance through the Force thanks to some familiar voices.

"Leia was no Jedi Master, but she had learned from the best," this excerpt reads. "And not just from Luke; over the years she'd occasionally heard the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi through the Force, and even more rarely, that of Yoda. Some days it had felt as though she'd learned from the Force itself."

Once again, it's a shame that The Rise of Skywalker didn't actually show us this, but seeing as director J.J. Abrams was working with limited footage of Carrie Fisher from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, that would probably have been a lot easier said than done. Ultimately, not having Leia become a Jedi Knight feels like a major missed opportunity, especially after that random reveal in the latter movie.

If nothing else, this novelization has been a good source for filling in some gaps, but the vast majority of moviegoers will never read it, and that leaves the film a somewhat underwhelming experience.

Do you think reveals like this are helping or hurting The Rise of Skywalker?
