It's always nice to see an actually good film at the top of the box office.

Good! Let's try and forget this Disney Trilogy cluster[frick].

@nikgrid - No. I liked it.

@rkshuttleworth - The trilogy or RoS? That's fine if you liked them...but they were a horrible failure in storytelling.

Just watched 1917 today and can only echo sentiments that it will be nice to see a good film in the #1 spot. Easily one of the best movies Ive seen this year.

@TheBigR - Is it as good as Dunkirk in terms of cinematography and tension?

TheBigR - 1/10/2020, 7:45 AM
@kylo0607 - Honestly I think so but I fully admit to being a "layman" in regards to that sort of thing. Though I will say the one shot thing has been done its still marvelous to behold.

So it's become a point of mediocrity when blockbusters ONLY reach a Billion at the box office, eh? Fascinating
🤔😆

@Lem1 - Do we care that TROS or Frozen 2 hit a billion+? No because it's pretty much guaranteed with their brand recognition. Its nothing new or exciting to know that a Disney sequel has or will hit a billion+. They consecutively owned the highest grossing films for the past 4 years.

8 out of the top 10 highest grossing films in 2019 belong to Disney. Only SpiderMan Far From Home & Joker do not. I think it's more interesting to highlight smaller or original films that can profit next to big IPs.

@Lem1 - No, but when the first installment hit $2 billion at the BO, the second was considered a disappointment (at $1,3 billion) and if your third one not only doesn't score as much or even more than the first but not even as much as the second installment, then yes, it might be considered mediocre.

Sequels nowadays should make more than their predecessors, not less with each subsequent installment.

I'm personally really looking forward to being able to see The Rise of Skywalker again. Honestly having a really hard time understanding the loathing comments people are throwing at it, especially on this site. The unfair bias and cynicism is really a bummer. Most of the people I've heard from in the real world are actually really pleased with how it turned out. In fact, the box-office numbers CLEARLY point to the fact that this was huge success, but the confirmation-bias causes most of you to discredit that success.

After binge-watching the entire saga (plus Solo & Rogue One) I can honestly say this is one of the better Star Wars movies ever made. Looking forward to a year or so from now when the "fans" take another look at it, and realize their preconceived expectations and behind-the-scenes "knowledge" robbed them from appreciating an actually pretty great Star Wars movie.

@jpmuftak - @jpmuftak - anyone wanna take this?

- the real world?
- a billion is successful, but that doesn’t confirm quality. If it did then Transformers is Oscar worthy.
- If you’ve seen the film and read the criticisms in terms of plotting, writing, and pacing, then you’d understand why people don’t see this as a satisfying story or saga conclusion.
-It’s fine to believe the film is good and enjoy it. I enjoyed several moments. But I don’t think we can pretend it was a great film, or even great Star Wars film due to its ‘lack of vision’

@jpmuftak - I agree with you completely! I can’t think of anyone who’s seen it who hasn’t liked it. One said she went with her mom who didn’t care for it but that was it. None of them loath it and want to see it fail like those who seem to comment on every SW article here.
TheBigR
TheBigR - 1/10/2020, 7:51 AM
@gethys - No one wants anything to fail you child. I hated the entire Disney SW catalogue but that didnt stop me from hoping each new movie would be an improvement over the last or simply be a good movie. Justified criticism in regards to failed writing, story, characters and world building dont negate the opinions of people who enjoyed it.

just imagine if a good movie came out at the same time as Episode 9, it would t have lasted so long at the top.

Side story.. IMO Rey's yellow saber is the combining of Ben and Leia's crystals....
red + green = yellow optically... and would be the first saber made with two crystals powering its single blade.

@ElCidJedi - I'd say 25 percent of the articles on here are worthy. The rest is fluff and clickbait. Then again what do I know lol
