SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Star Tony Leung Could Return To The MCU As Wenwu

Despite how things played out in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it's said that the door could be open to Tony Leung returning as Wenwu...and plans for that to happen may already be in place!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been a major box office hit, and the dynamic between the title character and his father, Wenwu, proved to be a highlight. The leader of the Ten Rings made his presence felt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way, but by the time all was said and done, he fell in battle while protecting his son from the Dweller-in-Darkness.

Actor Tony Leung delivered an incredible performance in the Marvel Studios movie, and it's a real shame that his run as "The Mandarin" has already reached its end...or has it?

Journalist Jeff Yang, who served as a cultural consultant on Shang-Chi, was recently speaking on the They Call Us Bruce podcast (via Murphy's Multiverse) and shared his thoughts on the Phase 4 movie. It was during that part of the conversation he dropped what could be confirmation that we're not done seeing Wenwu in the MCU quite yet.

"Given what they had in Tony Leung, I would have hoped that they would have made it a little more clear that he has other places to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe," he teased. "I’ll just leave it at that."

We're not anticipating Wenwu being resurrected following the events of Shang-Chi, but considering the fact he's been around for thousands of years, there are lots of different places he could return. Eternals is one likely possibility, but only time will tell whether there's anything to this story.

More Wenwu certainly wouldn't be a bad thing regardless of where he shows up and with Shang-Chi's post-credits scene making it clear there are big plans in store for the Ten Rings, we'd love to explore more of the group's history as well. Leung has talked about wanting to star in more Hollywood blockbusters, so he would no doubt jump at the chance to return to the MCU in some form as well.

We'll keep you guys updated as and when we learn more about this one.
