Kevin Feige Details 5-Film Plan For SPIDER-MAN In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talks here about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being shaped around Peter Parker and the way Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is going to be Phase 4's opening salvo...

When we first learned that Spider-Man would be swinging into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it sounded like Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures had only really planned as far ahead as Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and possibly Avengers: Infinity War if everything were to fall perfectly into place. Well, the deal between the two has been going very well and Spidey looks set to be a permanent addition to the world inhabited by heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.

Now, in a new interview, Kevin Feige has shed some light on just how far into the future Marvel's plans go and why the currently untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is going to be possibly one of the MCU's most important releases to date as we get ready to enter a whole new phase of storytelling.

"We are looking at a five-movie storyline — Civil War, Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, untitled Avengers, Homecoming 2 — or whatever we end up calling it — as an amazing five-story journey for Peter Parker. In the way that the events of Civil War directly inform the opening of Homecoming and his state of mind as he goes back to high school, so too will the events of the next two Avengers movies as he continues with high school. This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 and then two months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there."

There's just no way Sony will be able to ignore the critical response to Spider-Man: Homecoming along with the reboot's expected box office debut, so it's easy to imagine the wall-crawler being around in the MCU long after his planned trilogy of movies. What do you guys think of Feige's comments? Are you excited for what the future holds in store for Peter Parker? As always, share your thoughts below.
