GREATEST AMERICAN HERO Reboot Starring NEW GIRL's Hannah Simone Not Moving Forward At ABC
In the midst of all that cancelation news today, New Girl star Hannah Simone revealed that ABC will not be picking up her The Greatest American Hero reboot. Come take a look!
ABC's decision is one of the more surprising passes this year as many television pundits had expected the Nahnatchka Khan-produced project to be an almost sure thing, especially after they managed to land one of this pilot season's most heavily sought out actresses in Hannah Simone (New Girl).
The basic premise of the 30-minute half-hour comedy would have followed Meera, a 30-year-old woman from Cleveland, whose talents include drinking tequila, singing karaoke and not much else. All that changes when some aliens entrust her with a super suit protect the planet.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that their sources have said that the network felt the single-camera comedy felt a little "off-brand" for the Disney-owned network and instead opted for what they describe as more traditional family comedies like The Kids Are All Right and Single Parents, which is somewhat interesting to say the least. They did, however, stay in business with Khan and renewed Fresh Off The Boat for a fifth season.
Simone actually broke the news herself on Twitter and expressed her immense disappointment.
We just found out that network tv isn't ready for the first brown female superhero on tv. The Greatest American Hero won't be on @ABCNetwork this fall.. and our hearts are broken. This would have been history making and so empowering for young girls around the world. Get loud RT pic.twitter.com/cbGuWu24pO— Hannah Simone (@HannahSimone) May 11, 2018
