With production on most major television series and movies coming to a temporary halt amid the coronavirus pandemic, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke provided a brief status update on season two of the superhero series. Like many other studios, work on The Boys season 2 is being finished remotely. Specifically, work is still being done on the visual effects and sound.
It sounds like they are near the finish line however, and Kripke promised that the premiere date would be announced soon — along with some "other cool s--t."
Series star Karl Urban previously said back in November that season two would premiere in "mid 2020." It's unclear if that's still the case, but it's good to know that production is still underway.
The first season was met with met with favorable reviews from critics and fans alike, boasting an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average audience score of 94%. Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Boys is a dark and satirical take on the superhero genre, set in a world where supes have had their powers commercialized. The series follows a group of vigilantes who fight back against a corporation and its superheroes who abuse their powers.
Kripke has promised season two will not only be bigger than the first, but also "deeper, more intense, more insane, more wrenching and more character-drive." Speaking of characters, Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio) has joined the cast in a top secret role, joining fellow newcomers Aya Cash (You're the Worst) as Stormfront, Goran Višnjić (Timeless) as Alistair Adana and Claudia Doumit (Timeless) as Victoria Neuman.
THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It's the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about "The Seven," and their formidable Vought backing.
