THE FLASH: "Armageddon" First Look Image Reveals A VERY Human Take On The Villainous Despero

If you're a comic book fan, chances are you're used to seeing Despero look like he does in the banner image above. Unfortunately (and predictably), The CW has chosen to take him down a more human route...

When The Flash returns to The CW on November 16, it will be for a five-part "Armageddon" crossover event featuring Javicia Leslie as Batwoman, Brandon Routh as The Atom, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers/Sentinel, Kat McNamara as Green Arrow's future daughter, Mia Queen, and Crisis on Infinite Earths star Osric Chau as Ryan Choi.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has shared a first look at Doctor Who alum Tony Curran as Despero. As you can see, he doesn't exactly resemble his comic book counterpart here, but showrunner Eric Wallace tells the site we shouldn't jump to conclusions. "Be careful what you see," he said with a laugh. "Your eyes can sometimes deceive you."

Elsewhere in the interview, Wallace explained: "I wanted to put a truly classic DC villain in this five part event that I knew fans would get excited about. Also, and I can't say too much without revealing too much of the story, there's a certain element to the story itself that involves the powerset of Despero, [which] makes him the perfect fit for the story."

"You'll see throughout the episodes how Despero tests Flash in various ways. This is one of those moments. That's what makes it so pivotal. I think the audience is going to learn something new about Despero that they never knew, because we do have our own take on the [DC] mythology for the character...Let's just say the Flash is about to have the worst day he's ever had in eight years."

It's certainly going to be interesting to find out whether a comic accurate Despero does make his presence felt in The Flash, but he still sounds like an extremely formidable foe for the Scarlet Speedster.
