HAWKEYE Star Hailee Steinfeld Opens Up On Her Comic Book Research To Play MCU's Kate Bishop
There's a huge amount of excitement among comic book fans to see what Hailee Steinfeld will bring to the role of Kate Bishop/Hawkeye, and the actress has now opened up on her recent comic book research.
Hawkeye has wrapped production, and we're fully expecting some sort of first look later this summer. For now, we only have some set photos to go on, though both Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) looked like the perfect team in the shots we've seen thus far.
During a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Steinfeld talked about her research for the role. Admitting that she's "always loved comics" as a "very visual person," the actress added that she's been "discovering these elements of Kate Bishop that are in [the comics] that we're bringing to life in the show, and other elements of the comics."
Later in the interview, Steinfeld heaped praise on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying that she loves being able to join a world that exists because of its "endless amounts of references and information."
"It's always exciting to see what the filmmakers choose to take from what we know and turn it into what it becomes," Steinfeld concluded, making it clear that she's enjoyed delving into the comics.
Looking beyond this Disney+ TV series, all the signs are pointing to the Young Avengers assembling during Phase 4, and this Hawkeye definitely looks like a worthy addition to any version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Not much is known about what we can expect from MCU's take on Kate, but these set photos emphasise that the young hero won't waste any time in suiting up.
What leads to her actually becoming Hawkeye remains to be seen, of course, as her comic book counterpart took up the mantle when Clint was believed dead following the events of Avengers Disassembled. That took place in the pages of Young Avengers, and the two wouldn't meet until a few years later (it was at that point Clint started serving as an unlikely mentor to Kate).
