WHAT IF...? Executive Producer Reveals How Many Episodes Chadwick Boseman Will Appear In
We only expected Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman to voice one episode of What If...?, but the show's executive producer has now confirmed how many times we'll hear the late actor's work in the show.
What If...? arrives on Disney+ next Wednesday, and the premiere is set to put the spotlight on Captain Carter. However, the second instalment will follow a version of T'Challa who was taken from Earth by the Ravagers and became Star-Lord in place of Peter Quill. Chadwick Boseman recorded dialogue for the series before he died, but we didn't realise he'd been enlisted for multiple episodes.
Talking to ComicBook.com, What If...? executive producer Brad Winderbaum confirmed that we'll hear Boseman in a total of four episodes of the animated series during its first season.
"He plays different versions of the character. I wouldn't say that anything changed drastically. We wanted to honor, frankly, his performance and his eagerness to be a part of the project," he explained. "In retrospect, he recorded these episodes for us knowing what we all know now."
"We wanted to honor what he did, so we actually didn't change a lot of it," Winderbaum continued. "There were certain things, in the context of his passing, especially musically...Lauren Karpman delivered what I think is an incredible score for the entire series and the way she approached T'Challa throughout, especially in light of his passing, is really beautiful."
It was thought Boseman only lent his voice to What If...? for that Star-Lord episode, so the news that we're going to get four separate performances from him feels pretty special.
Here's our reaction to the first three episodes:
The third one stretches the premise a little too thinly, but is still fun. However, #ChadwickBoseman's #StarLord episode is just...you'll be blown away. His performance emphasises why he was such a special actor, and I couldn't help but get emotional listening to him. #WhatIf pic.twitter.com/C7RNkkl1NP— Josh Wilding - ComicBookMovie.com (@Josh_Wilding) August 1, 2021
