Netflix recently set a November 19 premiere date and shared a first look at the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, and thanks to EW's fall preview, we now have a new look at John Cho (Star Trek) as the irrepressible Spike Spiegel.

Some fans felt Cho was the wrong pick for Spike when he was first announced as having landed the role, but there's no denying that he looks the part. Whether the Netflix series manages to appease the anime's rabid fanbase remains to be seen, of course, but the first trailer should give us a much better idea of the reception that awaits the show.

Cowboy Bebop is based on the incredibly popular '90s anime by Shinichirō Watanabe, and follows a group of intergalactic bounty hunters aboard their spaceship, Bebop.

"Cowboy Bebop is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka cowboys, all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them."

We recently learned that anime composer Yoka Kano, who has worked on the likes of Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, Turn A Gundam, Macross Plus, and more, will be creating the soundtrack.

Cowboy Bebop will be exec produced and written by Christopher Yost (Thor), who will also serve as showrunner along with Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio; Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios; Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc. Watanabe is on board as a consultant.
