STAR WARS: THE BAD BATCH Producer Brad Rau Explains Why The Show Uses THE CLONE WARS' Animation Style

Talking during the global press conference for Star Wars: The Bad Batch, producer Brad Rau explained why the Disney+ series uses the same animation style as The Clone Wars. Read on for further details...

Star Wars: The Bad Batch arrives on Disney+ tomorrow, an appropriate choice considering May 4th is better known as "Star Wars Day." Recently, was on hand for the show's global press conference, and producer/head writer Jennifer Corbett and producer Brad Rau were among those in attendance.

The former worked on Star Wars Resistance, while the latter is no stranger to a Galaxy Far, Far Away after being part of that series, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

The duo was asked about the decision to have The Bad Batch match the animation style of The Clone Wars rather than establishing its own look like Rebels and Resistance, and Rau talked in detail about why they maintained that sense of visual continuity between the two shows.

"[That's] very intentional. The Bad Batch is a spiritual successor to The Clone Wars," he explained. "So we wanted to honor the style and the legacy of that. That being said, the whole team at Lucasfilm [have] just tightened everything up. The fidelity is tighter. The style is tighter. The rigs are tighter."

"The way that it's designed is still the legacy of The Clone Wars, but a little more detail. Little bit more focus. And the work we're doing, you know, for me, having worked on a lot of these shows, with a lot of the same people internally," Rau continued. "It's just the best team and I think we're doing our best work ever right now. It's really fun."

As we've seen in the trailers, The Bad Batch looks phenomenal, even if the animation style is familiar. However, seeing as we were introduced to the titular team in The Clone Wars, it makes sense for this series to stick closely to its animation style rather than doing something totally different. As Rau explains, though, there are definitely some different visual cues throughout.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting May 4th.
