Season two of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+ on October 30th, and executive producer Jon Favreau now confirms that shooting on the next batch of episodes begins before the year is over. Check it out...
We're just a couple of weeks away from The Mandalorian's return to Disney+, but work is already ramping up on the confirmed third season. During a recent interview with Variety, executive producer and showrunner Jon Favreau revealed that the next batch of episodes are "on schedule" to start shooting "before the end of the year."
It sounds like work will start as soon as Pascal is done shooting The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent with Nicolas Cage, and Favreau outlined how easy it is to film the series in this COVID era.
"We’re operating under the assumption that we’ll be able to go forward," Favreau explained, telling the trade that the unique way The Mandalorian is made - with wall-sized video panels to create location backdrops - has proved to be particularly beneficial to making sure the show can resume production.
"We’re in very small situations and oftentimes we have a lot of characters in masks," he said. "And we also have a lot of digital work that augments things. So we’re a show that’s probably well-equipped to be flexible based on the protocols that are emerging surrounding work restarting."
It's been confirmed that Thor: Love and Thunder will also make use of this technology, and Disney can use it for a number of upcoming TV shows and movies to help avoid COVID-related delays.
The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ on October 30th.
