MORTAL KOMBAT Honest Trailer Can't Understand Why New Character Cole Young Just Keeps Losing
The Screen Junkies team has released their "Honest Trailer" for Mortal Kombat, and it doesn't shy away from poking fun at Lewis Tan's Cole Young, a character who has not exactly been embraced by fans...
The Honest Trailer for Mortal Kombat delivers quite the Fatality to Warner Bros.' recent reboot of the hit video game franchise. Quite aptly describing it as "a feature-length teaser for a future movie that one day may contain a Mortal Kombat tournament," it doesn't hold back from highlighting its (many) flaws.
While it points out that most of the fight scenes are ruined by poor editing, it's poor Lewis Tan who really comes under fire as newly created character Cole Young.
Described as the "Harry Potter of Luke Skywalkers," the trailer is quick to highlight the fact that despite him being billed as some sort of master fighter, he just kept losing and getting beaten up. There are some less brutal observations to be found, but with 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's no great surprise that the reboot doesn't come out of this Honest Trailer with a Flawless Victory.
In our review of Mortal Kombat, we concluded by saying "While Mortal Kombat certainly isn't 'Game Over' for the iconic franchise, a painfully bad plot proves to be a 'Fatality' for a movie that features some otherwise brutal and excellent fight scenes. If you're only here for those, add another star."
The movie performed admirably at the box office, though no viewing figures have been released for its HBO Max run. As a result, we have no idea if a sequel will eventually happen.
