It's been a while since we had any updates on this one, but Nintendo and Illumination's animated Super Mario Bros. movie is still very much in development, and the full voice cast has now been announced.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt will provide the voice of of Mario, with It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia alum Charlie Day on board as his brother Luigi. Joining them will be Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

It's a very impressive cast, for sure, but there has already been some backlash online. For one, Mario and Luigi have always been depicted as a pair of Italian plumbers, and unless Pratt and Day plan on using exaggerated, stereotypical accents... actually, we don't even want to put that out in the universe!

Check out the official teaser poster below.

The late Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo played Mario and Luigi, respectively, in the critically lambasted 1993 live-action movie.

Super Mario Bros. will be produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2022.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” said Meledandri in a statement.
