WONDER WOMAN 1984 Costume Designer Lindy Hemming On Outfitting [SPOILER] In The Mid-Credits Scene - EXCLUSIVE

Wonder Woman 1984 costume designer Lindy Hemming talks in detail about creating the perfect look for [SPOILER], who made a surprise cameo appearance in the sequel's mid-credits scene. Check it out...

In the world of costume design, Lindy Hemming is a legend. Her work is arguably unrivalled, something that's evident from what we've seen in the James Bond movies (from Goldeneye to Casino Royale), Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, and both Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984

With the sequel now available to rent on Premium Video on Demand in the UK, we recently had the opportunity to speak to Lindy about her work on the DC Comics adaptation. As well as confirming that she'll return for Wonder Woman 3, we also took this opportunity to ask her about the work that went into creating a striking look for Lynda Carter's Asteria in the sequel's mid-credits scene.

"I’ve got to say, blowing my own trumpet, that everything everybody wore in that film, particularly the principal actors, was made. We made it in our workshop. Lynda Carter was no different," Hemming explains. "We made everything that she was going to wear, and the blue cloak took quite a lot of playing around with. We didn’t want it to look like it was a superhero cloak."

"At the same time, we wanted there to be a moment of doubt in the viewer’s mind about who it is and what they’re seeing. We couldn’t make it red, and Wonder Woman is red, blue, and gold, so in the end, we decided on that very, very vivid blue. That would stand out from the crowd she’s walking through, and make your 'psychic mind' think it was Wonder Woman (we even made her hair the same). It was a lot of designing for that simple, throw over the shoulder poncho.

"[Lynda] liked it! She liked it and was happy with it," she concludes. "Of course, she also had to wear very high heels, so she had that little tinge of Diana going on."

This mid-credit scene was a great surprise for fans, and seeing Lynda Carter back in the world of Wonder Woman was a real treat. The hope is that it might lead to an appearance in Wonder Woman 3, with Diana Prince teaming up with Asteria (who can relate to being on her own in the world).

Time will tell on that front, but let us know your thoughts on this cameo - and the costume - below!

Wonder Woman 1984 is available to rent on Premium Video on Demand from 13th January.
