It amazes me that, in recent years with the boom of comicbook movies, Fox just refused to do comic accurate costumes. So much so that I’d image they’d have Cyclops in Sunglasses the whole time if they had it their way

@Twenty23Three -
We got comic book accurate costumes in First Class, Apocalypse, Deadpool, Dark Phoenix, and damn near in The Wolverine.

Not sure what this revisionism is about.

Even outside of the ending, many of the designs in Apocalypse were pretty faithful.

@Darkknight2149 - They were very cautious.

1st class suits were bland, but still a good attempt of recreating the original x-men suit (and not the Jim Lee one you posted).

those in the end of apocalypse were a fan service and never used again, just like the (unused) footage of the classic wolverine suit.

Deadpool, yeah. Perfect.

Jubilee is just a girl with a yellow coat, so... OK, that's pretty easy to have onscreen.

Apocalypse's problem wasn't with his suit design, but with his body proportions. He should be something like Thanos or BvS's Doomday's (proportions only, mind it) to remind us of the comicbook one. So... good idea, bad execution.

Psylocke was a pretty good one.

I'm not a purist and don't think the suits should be 100% the same as in the CBs (99% would look very dumb), but Fox-Men were very shy on embracing the Comics visuals.

But hey, they started with black leather suits very reminiscent of Blade and Matrix so... Yeah, they evolved.

Seems like it's missing something. Feels lackluster. Has that video game GoW guy done Jean yet?

@TheManWithoutFear - I don't believe so. His versions of Mysterio, Storm and Cyclops look great though

@MalesMarcel - Yeah for sure. His Cyclops especially was boss.

We all love the 90's X-Men designs, but yeah, outside of a few exceptions, most of them would probably look terrible in live action

Those were based on those designs and outside of Cyclops, they do not work at all.

@dracula - Mystique looked really weird and the rest looked pretty generic in coloring. Cyclops did look great though, wish they moved on with that

Off topic: Anyone reading Empyre? I'm finding it to be nothing special, but its a pretty fun read. The FF tie-ins are great fun and shows that Slott gets the characters even though his usual FF run is faithful albeit pretty dull. Also the X-Men tie in by Hickman and Tini Howard was pretty great since it looks to be addressing the Wanda boogeyman stuff and brings back those old ladies from earlier in DoX.

@AbidNaga - It's okay. The twist wasn't much of one, but nothing to really hold against the story. It's Slott, though; He tends to have good ideas and then chokes towards the end.

The thing about the “comic-accurate” Morrison/Quitely costumes in Dark Phoenix, is that (I believe) those only happened as a result of Fox’s uninspired black leather look.

The saying “lipstick on a pig” comes to mind every time there is an article depicting concepts for x movies

This actually looks really great. Even though the movie would've still been a mess, atleast I could've been a bit forgiving if they all had comic accurate costumes

FoxMen always stayed with showing us how they almost did something right way after the fact.Like it somehow makes them cool or something showing us what could’ve been?infuriating cuz if they at the very least looked the part this movie could almost be tolerable.Maybe

As much as I love Jean's 90's uniform, I don't think it works in live action. Maybe it's just me but the whole wrapped-in-head thing is just weird in real life.

They did however nail Cyclops's 90's uniform at the end of 'Apocalypse' so maybe they could still adapt Jean's uniform as well although I'd prefer if they based her outfit on a different uniform like her classic green one.

Hopefully all the X-characters will have somewhat colorful comic based costumes when they appear in the MCU.

Eh, My first introduction to X-Men were the movies, so I don't really care for comic accurate costumes. But if they can make them work, they'll be a welcome addition.

Hopefully with the MCU X-Men Jean gets the headband thing and Cyclops gets the full hood/cowl thing as well as the visor. Use Fox's lack of accuracy in the looks department as a way of differentiating the MCU version by leaning into it more, you know? Let's get Angel in his costume, and maybe get Storm in something inspired by her white costume too. And give Wolverine some version of his costume too, although admittedly it's a hard one to come up with an in universe reason for - giving it a more militaristic edge would help, kinda like the treatment they gave Cap's suit in TFA, AOU, IW, Endgame, and especially Winter Soldier.

wonder in that rendering what tactical situation 'arose' that required Jean to have skin tight clothes?

Good thing they didn't go with it.

It's the opportunity to make something different (and classic) in the MCU.
